Meredith sat in her room alone, the room dark. She twisted the little ring around her finger, trying to even her breathing as tears spilled down her cheeks. He was gone. It was hard to except the fact that someone she had known and cared for so long had left this word only yesterday. It had been because someone he had loved, a girl, had died. That's what Brian had said anyway. She was surprised at first, how there situations were all too similar, she and Brosenthal. If only she could have talked to him, comforted him, let him know that there was someone else who was hurting just as much as he was. But she hadn't had a chance to do any of those things and now... well now it was too late.

Why was this happening. Why now. Why to the people Meredith cared about so dearly; her family. It didn't seem fair. It wasn't fair. Meredith curled in on herself in an attempt to hold herself together. Several images flashed before her eyes and continued in a thread as if they were on repeat. First she saw Nick, lying in his hospital bed, scars marring his body. She saw Jaime, thinner than healthy though Meredith had told her at the time that she looked good. She saw Joe, a crumpled mess, leaning into her, tears spilling down his cheeks because the fans couldn't except him for who he was. She saw Lauren, limp and fragile in a hospital bed, tubes protruding from her wrists and nose. She saw an unconscious Brosenthal being wheeled into the hospital, eyes open as Brolden had described. And finally she saw Drew, tucking her hair behind her ear before leaning in to kiss her. And then she saw his grave, and more tears came then, staining her cheeks as she choked out sobs of anguish and pain.

She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to keep the tears from coming and wanting the images to stop but failed on both accounts. She felt so useless, sitting on her bedroom floor without a bruise or scrape or some kind of physical scar while her friends who meant so much to her were suffering. And she couldn't do anything about it. And she hated herself for it.
