I don't post on this account super-often (mostly because I see Tumblr as a fandom space, and I have another blog for that), but I'm trying to bring attention to tomorrow, May 6, 2021 and the Big Day of Giving, a day to support local nonprofits.
Specifically, I'm hoping you'll consider donating $15+ to Soroptimist International of Davis, the nonprofit I volunteer and work for on a regular basis.
The word "Soroptimist" is a coined word, from the Latin soror (women) and optima (best), so loosely translated, its name means "Best for Women." The global organization's tagline is "Investing in Dreams," and they do that with numerous programs, including signature programs like Dream It, Be It career mentoring for high school girls (my club specifically works with underserved students at a continuation high that often doesn't get the resources of other high schools) and Live Your Dream, a cash grant for women pursuing technical certification or their higher education while acting as the primary breadwinner for their family.
SI Davis also has a strong focus on anti-trafficking and ending domestic violence, and to that end, we put together "rescue backpacks" delivered to survivors of these situations. Each backpack costs $80-$100 to assemble, depending on the contents; you can read more about them in our inaugural community newsletter here. If you donate $20, you can get a vinyl sticker that I designed that shows you invest in women, and if you donate $80 or more, you sponsor one of the rescue backpacks.
Donations also help our nonprofit become eligible for additional prizes, so please donate what you can today!
