But wait! There’s MORE!
Tip:
When it comes to stuff like racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, I’ve found it’s usually way better to think to yourself ‘I don’t want to be’ than ‘I’m not’.
I.e. if someone goes ‘that thing you just did is ableist’, instead of going ‘I’m not ableist, I don’t hate disabled people!’ it’s usually a lot better to go ‘I don’t want to be ableist, I should rethink what I’m doing/saying/etc in light of that fact’. Because that shifts your thinking so rather than jumping straight into denial and attempts to defend your character, you’re instead more inclined to look at how your actions could be misrepresenting your intentions. Or whether you’ve overlooked something, been callous, or acted in ignorance.
Good thinkin
I saw a very good post on why learning literature is important and not at all about "oh the curtains are blue because the character feels sad" and it made me think about math. I didnt want to hijack that post bc it delves on racism and I dont want to speak over them on that.
But
Math isnt about if you can add 674 to 734 very quickly. It isnt about if you can find the x on an equation or if you know what the sin of an angle at a triangle is. Math is about logic. When you learn to look at geometrical problems and its ridiculous angles and sines and all that shit what you actually should be learning is how to interpret a problem. How to look at a situation and understand its roots and understand how that helps you solve your original question.
Not learning basic math is a cute meme, but the consequences are the avalanche of fake information and pseudoscience we have now. The anti vax movement is a great example of a group that just fails to see the roots of an issue, that lack the logical skill to see the faults in their speech. Their hatred against autistic people is fed by that lack of logical linear thought. Its very easy to forget how to argument when you're angry and bitter.
It's a dangerous combination
That's why fake news spread like wildfire even if they are bananas. Because if you don't train your brain to understand logic puzzles you dont use it on other situations.
Of course math isnt the ONLY SUBJETCT WITH LOGIC OWO. That would be stupid to say. But the fact is that is a very direct way to aproach logic that we usually neglect bc its thought to us that all it matters is that you can find x by the end of the day. Especially because our educational system is super kin on pretending humanities and stem dont interlapse. Like if you enjoy history or physolophy or arts you cant enjoy math and physics and chemistry. Like there isnt logic in history and philosophy in science.
This separation is on purpose. Logic in and of itself means nothing if you don't know the historical settings on where to apply it. If you cant do both they can control you.
Please be careful of what kind of information you are spreading

also, if you missed it, chris redd from SNL put together a gofoundme to help black protestors who might test positive for covid-19 in the upcoming weeks as well as pay for urgent medical care for those severely hurt during the riots.
just heard the new number is ~9000 arrests of protestors in the US so i think today would be a good day to donate to bail funds if you have not already!!
and if you don’t have the financial ability to give money right now, this is a playlist I made with YouTube videos that the ad revenues go to black lives matter foundations. run it without an ad blocker on your browser and don’t skip the ads
He was an activist who inspired millions to fight for their rights. He knew what was wrong with our country and risked his life to help his people achieve equality. In the society where black were treated like animal he did everything possible to change this. His brave soul, his will and courage changed the history of America , changed the people. He made us believe we can win this war. He payed for it with his life. He will always be remembered.
Respecting his memory also means acknowledging that his fight is far from over, black people are facing the same issues that ha birth to the Black Panthers, and that the FBI is basically trying to launch COINTELPRO 2.0 against BLM and other black activists. Hampton should be more than a history lesson, he should be a rallying point.
dogs were deployed in buffalo, new york. i remember when dogs were deployed at standing rock as well. please educate yourselves about how to deal with dogs while they are attacking, as well as the wounds after (which have a high chance of infection). offer a dog your non-dominant arm and hit its shoulders (not head) with your dominant hand. pull dogs off fellow protesters by grabbing their hind legs, pulling, and throwing them as far as possible from both of you. you can’t outrun a dog, but this will buy you time to find safety.
if you know any local street medics, check in with them about this very real possibility at your local protests so that they can educate themselves and others about dog bites.
update: dogs were also deployed in st. louis city.
here’s a comment from another dog trainer:
“hi wanted to comment as another person who worked with training dogs. wheelbarrowing is not recommended a lot of the time because the dog CAN flip around and bite you, including your face!
frankly i would recommend having citronella spray of some kind on hand. its unpleasant AND not sus to carry. i have no issue with spraying the shit out of an aggressive animal or kicking it tbh. whatever keeps you safe.
if youre in a situation where a dog is latched on its recommended to choke them out by using a rope or lead under their jaw, lifting and pushing forward. they have to pick whether to hang on or breathe.
OH AND! COPS DO NOT! EVER! OUT THEIR DOGS! k9s intentionally are NOT cued to release because of "liability". choke those dogs OFF!!!!!!! thats what cops do every time.
if the dog is already biting a person when you attempt to drag them backward, the dog WILL bite harder and hang on, so thats another reason. im sure thats obvious but i did want to add that.”
as a former dog trainer, i seriously can’t state enough that police dogs are trained via long term abuse and are often put down after retirement due to aggression issues. i know a lot of us don’t want to think about the reality of having to hurt a dog, but please put that aside and consider this should it become a reality where you live. it may save your life or someone else’s. you and other people are more important.
citronella will not work on all dogs, so please keep this in mind too.
hey! here’s a video demonstration on how to get a dog to release a bite while also having far more control than wheelbarrowing or spray. once they’ve latched on, i can bet you they will NOT be releasing from spray. i’ve seen dogs keep hold even while being stabbed, punched/kicked in the nose/stomach/eyes, being pulled off by multiple people, being attacked by other dogs, having things thrown at them, and being shocked. there are some comments discussing the common commands for these dogs, specifically discussing that they are often given in german, but i will tell you to please not rely on that. it’s not just the word that matters with commands, the tone is important, you’re playing with a ton of factors outside of your control there, and i would NOT rely on possibly knowing a command for an out for a lot of reasons, first of which because you don’t want to bank on your chances of being able to deliver it effectively while being bitten. they might not even be the commands for that dog. i’ve had to do this in dog parks with dogs that have gone after mine, have tried to go after me for intervening, usually with the leash still attached to them from an owner that either let it go or lost control of. if you’re expecting dogs, bring your own tools. it’s not just about putting a rope under the jaw. there are ways to make it safer for you, other people, whoever is targeted, and lastly the dog (if you’re in a position where that matters).
jack (@shock) is a well educated dog trainer, and a source i trust. i watched the video he linked and as a visually impaired person, found it accessible to me because all actions needed to non-lethally remove an attacking dog are verbally described. the english closed captioning is auto-generated, but i’ve been informed that the instructions are also written onscreen for this video.
i will also be timestamping updates to this post. this is current information as of june 2nd at 8:28PM CST.
How clearly does the point need to be made that "police officer" is just a fucking job, one with minimal training and minimal monitoring. It is NOT some kind of promise of honesty, truth, or heroism. It is a bunch of assistant managers with extremely powerful weapons. IF you can understand "pedophiles choose to be priests and teachers so they can get to children", IF you understand "arsonists choose to be firefighters so they can be present at their own crimes" - then you can ALSO understand "people who are bigoted, violent, and power-hungry choose to be cops for the opportunities the job presents" and you can ALSO understand "any occupational culture that chooses fraternity over justice - and the allowance of violence in the name of a unified front - is therefore siding with their worst representatives"
