I'm Ren. She/her. This is my Tron blog. I try to run it like an archive, but I didn't start out that way, so I've got some catching up to do.

i've been playing tron 2.0 recently and for a while i was not too sure why jet disliked alan so much but tbh if my father allowed me to be named jethro eugene bradley i'd fucking hate him too
Really, the issue with Jet and Alan is that...well, Alan had a vision of what he thought a son would be.
And Jet isn't so much Alan's boy as he is Lora's.
(And, weirdly enough, Jet REALLY takes after his virtual siblings...)
Now, Lora was the type who didn't want the safe and predictable route. She could have chosen an MRS degree, or gone into teaching school, or any number of "acceptable" careers for a woman in the early 80s. Instead, she chose a physics degree, a lab, and pushing the boundaries of science. The closest she came to "safe and sane" was in marrying Alan.
Jet, like his mom, is going to walk his own path and that's something Alan can't really understand as Alan is a planner, a strategist. His way of caring for people is securing their futures, but Jet doesn't want the confinement of the "safe" route. He'll take making art (games) and maybe a little unauthorized computer access.
With Lora's death in the 2.0 timeline, it just makes things even more painful. Jet is all Alan has left, so he's going to double down in trying to keep Jet safe and control his future. Jet has lost the parent who understood him, and is going to rebel even harder.
