But it really isn’t. There’s obviously racist art (it’s clear in various other forms of art), but this certainly isn’t one of those pieces.

This is a simply a skeleton. In fact, it probably holds little to no meaning as many art critics and historians think it was just done for an anatomy class he attended. He has featured skeletons many times in his works. They seem to be a recurring theme and some speculate that they, as well as many other pieces, refer to his suicidal thoughts and tendencies towards the latter half of his life.

I’m not quite sure how this could possibly be considered blackface when it is nothing but a skeleton done for a college class. If he were depicting a racial archetype, perhaps, but this isn’t doing that. It’s just a skeleton smoking.
