Been really into drawing chibis from the current story arc of Metanoia Blues. Who said a murder mystery can’t be adorable? (It’s not. it’s really not. But our cast kinda is)
While aiding Captain Varis Greenleaf and his crew in their recovery, the trio learns that Varis bears the Mark of Storm, and once reported directly to High Prince Ryger ir’Wynarn, as a Seadragon pirate captain. As a foundling of House Lyrandar, Varis was recruited by the High Prince to take part in a political plot to solidify an alliance between House Lyrandar and the Seadragon Principality.
However, when Varis disappeared for six years due to the seaspawn curse, this plan fell through, leaving Ryger and the Seadragons to instead ally with House Orien and the Wind Whisperers.
With Varis alive and well, Willow reconsiders their decision to pawn off the mechanical songbird they made, which houses a recording of Varis’ voice singing to his late boyfriend. To their dismay, when they attempt to reclaim their wayward invention from the local pawn shop, they discover the bird has already been sold to a man in a red coat. Unable to find any information on this mysterious buyer, Willow has no choice but to carry on.
Meanwhile, En finds themselves suddenly speaking directly with their eldritch eyeball via magical writing that appears on the pages of their sketchbook. Proving its sentience, the Eye offers En the power to fight the cult that took them captive four years ago, in exchange for pursuing knowledge. En agrees.
Later, En and Willow are invited to Luca’s 26th birthday. They have a night on the town, dancing, playing awkward drinking games, and scoping out potential flings for Luca. Willow’s keen eyes land him a lascivious evening with a hobgoblin named Ludo. That same night, a tipsy En asks Willow if they would be willing to travel with En to the Mror Holds to continue researching the Eye’s potential connection to Khyber together. Willow deflects.
As the excitement dies down, Luca approaches Seeker Else, asking her to help him finally take the Oath of Redemption. Though he cannot remember his past, he knows as a former Knight Captain of Karrnath that there must be blood on his hands. He endeavours to avoid anymore unnecessary bloodshed going forward.
En later pulls Seeker Else, Luca, and Willow aside to finally explain why they’ve been behaving strangely for the past few days. Greatly distressed, they reveal everything they know regarding the incident four years ago when they were taken captive in a House Phiarlan theatre known as The Snapdragon. How their mind was read by a terrifying creature known as a Nothic, and their deepest fears used against them. How people were tortured and killed on stage for entertainment. How their eye was surgically removed and replaced backstage. How the sister of the matriarch of House Phiarlan was involved. And how the man with the golden monocle was part of that audience. Seeker Else, Luca, and Willow believe them without question.
Returning to Regalport, the trio investigates what happened to Captain Varis’ former ship the Silver Dancer. They soon discover it is now captained by none other than En’s former client, Miraldine Frostroot. Unable to do anything else, they return to Salvage, where a gruesome discovery waits in the woods.

this is, indeed, fanart for @metanoia-blues! just straight up aped a whole scene from the latest episode (ep. 70) to draw into comic form lol. what a time I chose to join back in on the journey
#man. literally I have never felt this much rage about a fictional character. I need this bitch to die painfully On Screen #for folks without context here warfred (the guy with beard) and willow (guy with the robot mask) were in a question game #while warfred is a suspect in a murder like. two days ago #the question game is warfred's style which. speaks to the kind of person that he is. fuck that guy #willow's taken it upon themself (and so have their friends) to investigate the murder. which is why they're in his apartment on excuses #and they were coming to a draw on the question game. and willow laid down their ace which is a wound they knew warfred lied about #and instead of continue playing the game. well. you see #highly recommend reading the recaps and catching at least this episode btw. it was INSANE experiencing it live. it was Something Else #to give you an idea of how insane. right after that scene I plugged in my laptop to sketch and ink this comic. #and finished that in six hours. #this shit had me in a chokehold I'm not normal #actually first time an audio play actually managed to scare me! fucked up and evil!!! #active call to people who like audio plays and dice improv. get into this with me. its so good
After a couple days of rest and a bit of shopping to buy Luca a new prosthetic arm, our trio set off for the Driftwood Marsh in search of the river barge, home of the dreaded hag, Old Aggie Eeltongue.
Old Aggie proved to be as abrasive and unpleasant as the stories had said, prodding and provoking our heroes with snippets of knowledge from their past that the hag had no right to know...
Through her flippant remarks, it’s revealed to En and Willow that four years ago Luca lost all memories of his life, and that he carries a Dragonmark of the Sentinel on the nape of his neck. Luca and Willow also learn that En’s right eye was replaced against their will by the strange eyeball that now acts as the source of their magic. Willow’s immediate research would reveal this eyeball’s origins to likely be one of two planes: Xoriat, the Plane of Madness, or Khyber, the World within Worlds.
After making the trio do her chores, Aggie agrees to give them a cure for the curse in exchange for the return of her conch shell. But first, they’re told to venture into the marsh and retrieve some ingredients for her. Slightly battered and embarrassed, the trio returns to Old Aggie’s barge with the ingredients in tow.
As a curse-lifting concoction simmers, Aggie offers the trio a mystical fortune telling. She tells Luca that joy and suffering in equal measure await him on his journey, and that people he does not remember miss him. And to En, she reveals that the cult that forced the Eye upon them is still active with more than ten members, and the greater whole that the Eye was a fragment of is still alive. But Willow refuses Old Aggie’s fortunes, instead opting to use her crystal ball themselves. Succeeding at this phenomenal feat of magic, Willow has visions of an airship called the Stormchaser, observing it and its unfamiliar crew.
Before the trio departs, Old Aggie reluctantly offers them one last gift, a piece of the Draconic Prophecy:
The braid of fate is not lightly split, so a telling for one is a telling for all.
What I say now is only a glimpse of the living prophecy, the coils ever shifting as the great wyrm wends its way through the sands of time…
The Startouched Wanderer.
The Devoted Shieldbearer.
The Penitent Dreamspeaker.
A grand design spirals into the beyond, for your lives are more than simply your own. I see four pillars unmoving, each a trial in its own right, though only one will promise fortune at the threshold.
Beware the roving Eyes of the slumbering Tyrant; their thirst poisons the Houses in Shadow.
The Blazing Blade seeks those who will carry it beyond the borders of darkness.
Only a resurrection of the Twisted Shade can quench its selfish heart.
Forgotten love wields its sword in despair, clutched by hand of green that bows to the legacy of the Thirteenth Mark.
In the desolate heart of the shattered Gorgon sleeps the Seed of Annihilation.
The Steel Lion knows the way. Trust his guidance.
That is all that I see. These are the things that Will come to pass, for they were set in motion long ago. All else is ephemeral chaos, unknowable until the moment it is.
The hag claims that the Fates of our three heroes are intertwined. Four inevitable trials await them, and their actions will have great consequences, though the outcome is yet unclear. Willow the Startouched Wanderer, Luca the Devoted Shieldbearer, and En the Penitent Dreamspeaker.
With that, Old Aggie all but shoves our heroes from her home, her barge sinking below the marsh water.
Returning to Salvage with a cure for Captain Varis and his crew in the form of magical soap, the trio discuss with Luca’s friend and mentor Seeker Else the best way to bathe six seaspawn. Else offers to let them use the clinic baths and to provide help, but it would need to be arranged for two days later, as the anniversary of the Day of Mourning was approaching - a holiday in remembrance of the grim calamity that had destroyed the nation of Cyre and brought the Last War to a grinding halt. Such a day meant that the clinic would likely be busy with those seeking counsel and care. Nevertheless, the trio sneaks into the caves under the lighthouse to report the news to Varis and his crew and arrange to administer the hag's curative soap at the earliest opportunity.
In the meantime, disguised as their shady alias Kai, En visits a Regalport salon named Vis-a-Visage, which operates as a front for their criminal contact Vis’ less-than-legal enterprises. There they learn of a lucrative impersonation job: attend a special theatre performance on the Day of Mourning wearing the face of one Captain Miraldine Frostroot. En accepts the job without comment.
Disguised as Captain Frostroot, En finds themselves at House Thuranni's Galleria of Shadows, sitting next to some of the most high-ranking Captains of the Seadragon Principality, including High Prince Ryger ir’Wynarn himself.
They are in attendance at the premiere performance of the Folly of the Four Sons - a new opera by the Cyran poet Tarek Elham, performed by the brightest of House Thuranni’s luminaries. The cast includes the head of the house himself, Baron Elar d'Thuranni playing a titular role, and his daughter Lydia Lelas d'Thuranni as the prima donna. The opera was a deliberate criticism of the Last War, with dream-like visuals created through incredible feats of illusion magic.
The job seemed to be going smoothly, until it wasn’t. During the intermission, En caught sight of a man with a golden monocle. They recognized him from the worst day of their life – when they were taken captive in a House Phiarlan theatre, had their own eye surgically removed and replaced with the magical one that now haunts their dreams. Shaken by the sudden memory, En manages to finish their job and return to their temporary residence at the Nodding Poppy clinic. Despite Luca’s best efforts to calm En’s nerves, En spends the night in a wakeless sleep, remembering in perfect clarity the events that led to them making their Warlock Pact.
The next day En, Luca, and Willow smuggle the cursed seaspawn to the clinic under the cover of night. Using the magic soap, they scrub away the curse revealing the true forms of Captain Varis and his crew.

asked for prompts for writing exercises, and got a request for the Scrap Bucket from Metanoia Blues!
no warnings
--
Voices drifted up from the beach, but Varis' eyes were on the horizon and his feet firmly on the deck planks. The midday sun burned on the back of his neck.
Though the Scrap Bucket - aye, now wasn't that the joke - was still dry-docked, and lacked the familiar sway beneath his feet, Varis felt... alert. Alert and ready for duty.
Duncan would-
Varis squeezed his eyes shut. He focused on the call of the gulls, the rush of the wave on the shore, the salt in the air. The slap of a furled sail against the rigging. The smell of wood stain.
He had inspected her bow to stern, searching high and low for the slightest fault. But like a rolling coin that had at last rattled to a stop, when Varis had set foot upon the Scrap Bucket, he had felt something settle in his soul.
Young Willow's laugh, proud and nervous, came from down below. Willow should be proud. Master Bruno should be prouder still.
Varis rested his hand on the newly polished railing, dragging his fingers over the sanded grain. He spoke low into the wind. "Full sails and clear skies."
A taste of what my warlock En has been through over the past handful of sessions, from telling stories about their long lost parents, to talking to Elementals, to trying to convince their adoptive grandma to hate them (it didn’t work)
In the sleepy fishing village of Salvage, Luca, a displaced ex-soldier from Karrnath, seeks out the arcane tinkerer Willow Jenkins hoping they can help repair his badly damaged prosthetic arm. In order to earn money for parts, the two accept a lucrative if strange job: investigate an abandoned lighthouse that has suddenly stopped working after a storm.
Arriving at the lighthouse, the two encounter the mysterious warlock, En, who became paralyzed by a magic trap while investigating the lighthouse for their own reasons. Breaking the enhancement on En, our heroes find their exit blocked, forcing them to ascend the lighthouse in hopes of dispelling the strange magics that plagues it. Along the way they face off against magic traps, possessed household items, and a furious, wailing spectre that chases them away.
As the trio explores, they discover a series of scattered journal entries belonging to the former lighthouse keeper Duncan. These notes reveal him to be the poltergeist haunting the lighthouse. They tell the story of a lonely man, except for his romance with a sea captain named Varis Greenleaf. All is not as it seems, however, as one entry explains that Duncan made a sinister bargain with a hag to win Captain Varis’s heart. After Varis fails to return from sea, Duncan steals a conch shell from the hag in hopes that its magical properties would summon Varis home. This thievery results in a curse that leads the keeper to take his life.
While wandering the caves running under the lighthouse, the trio finds not only a group of skittish seaspawn but also the Captain's Log belonging to the vanished Captain Varis. According to the grim account, when Varis eventually returned to the lighthouse with his crew, he encountered the wailing spectre and became trapped on the island by a strange storm. He saw visions brought about by the magic conch shell, grew sickly, and with no hope for escape, succumbed to a curse that transformed he and his crew into seaspawn.
In hopes of conversing with the cursed seaspawn, our heroes bribe them out of hiding with food. Though the seaspawn are unable to speak, the trio manages to communicate with Captain Varis through crude scrawling in the sand. Unfortunately, the Captain is unable to give them any further information, not even aware the spectre is his former lover Duncan. He can only wish the trio good luck.
Armed with the conch shell Willow swiped from the spectre, a music box that had been a gift from the Captain to the keeper, and En’s arcane knowledge about dealing with hauntings, the trio confront the spectre once more. Through their combined efforts, they manage to defeat the poltergeist for good. The relentless storm finally breaks, and the three are able to leave the lighthouse.
Though free, our heroes unanimously agree that they should attempt to liberate the cursed Captain and crew still trapped in the caves under the lighthouse. They intend to do this by returning the magical conch shell to its original owner: the hag known as Old Aggie Eeltongue.
