Mexican Candy Box for December 2013 was filled with an even number of sweet and spicy candy. Here's the list included this month, starting from the top row, left to right:
Lucas Salsaghetti: Watermelon hot candy strips with tamarind flavor sauce
Mara Piña: Chili Pineapple Lollipop
Pulparindo Hard Candy: Tamarind filled hard candy, hot and salted (Various flavors: Mango, Chamoy, Tamarind)
Mango Revolcado: Soft center lollipop, mango flavor covered with chili
Piruli Lolli: Lollipop with Honey
Cremosas: Creamy candy, milk and honey (Various flavors: strawberry, peach, cappuccino)
Cremino Bicolore: Cocoa and hazelnut praline
Nucita Choco/Fresa: (with small spoon) Creamy candy chocolate strawberry flavor
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LEAD CANDY CURATOR:
For December I wanted to include something a little more on the classic side. That turned out to be the Piruli Lollipop which is a cone shaped lolli with the colors of the Mexican flag - red, white, and green. It's flavored with a honey and has a subtle sweet taste, not sugary. The spicy lolli, Mara Piña, is pineapple flavor with just the right touch of chili powder mixed in with the hard candy. Not too hot, not too sweet, just right. Something new to me was the Salsaghetti, a play on the words Salsa and Spaghetti. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up being good. The spaghetti strands were gummy and soft with some hot stuff sprinkled on. And, the sauce that came with it in a packet was more liquid than I thought it would be. I kind of made a mess with it. But, the tamarind flavor of the sauce, slightly salted, was a perfect compliment to the gummy watermelon.
Mmmm.... sweet temptations!
