this whole “boycott love simon because the book was written by a straight woman” thing is so off base considering the amount of lgbt shows and movies written by straight people that y’all have never had a problem with supporting before (i never heard a word about shadowhunters despite cass*ndra cl*re being straight and a massive piece of shit). not to mention the director of love simon is a gay man who has said in multiple interviews how important this movie is to him and how he wishes he’d had a movie like it when he was younger, one of the main characters is played by an actual mlm, and the author of the book (who has always been an open and supportive ally) got input through the entire writing process. the transparency is honestly incredible.
