The MegaVan is two and a half weeks away from embarking on the long awaited MexPan Adventure
I know I haven’t posted/written anything in a long time but the MexPan Adventure is still alive and surfing and camping my way from California to Panamá is still moving forward. Life just happen to throw me a bunch of curve balls so the Universe seems I needed growth in some areas of my life. BUT! I did sand the roof of the MegaVan and got two coats of primer and three coats of paint on it so now maybe it will stop the rust and hand painted to boot with Rust-o-leum and a roller. Now to get it legal in California.
The Beast is going in to get the air conditioning fixed. Tried and tried but to no avail. Can't go south without it. 😎❄️❄️❄️❄️
"Surfing is the quintessential example of adventuring, for there are few endeavors that so perfectly combine travel/exploration with a creatively satisfying relationship to the environment. " A quote from Allen C. Weisbecker.
Another word of wisdom or warning, how ever you perceive it and a great quote from a true adventurer. “My plan, so fa as I have one, is to go thru Mexico to one of those Central American ports……Naturally it is possible and even probable that I may never return; that is why I am going.
THIS IS HOW IT ALL BEGAN……
I have a little casita (container house) in the southern most part of Panama in a beautiful little pueblo called Pedasi. Good surf, lots of sun and wild animals, and tropical. After moving from Hilo from the Big Island of Hawai'i and shipping a 1994 Ford rust bucket 4x4 F350 extended 1 ton Van from there, and while visiting my Ma in LA I decided to create a project out of my van and restore it for a surf adventure from LA to Panama. While in LA my Ma had a medical episode, she’s 94, so I decided to stay on and take care of her till, huh, well anyway……. So while I’m here in LA the van, which I call the “YETI 4x4 MegaVan” has been going through a ton of changes which will make a two to three month trip more comfortable.
As it stands now, I have a small list of people and surfers that are friends of mine who want to sign on for legs of the trip. And so it goes. As things progress I will write them down and once the trip begins I will do a day to day journal of the trip south. I was inspired by two things. One, I lived in Baja California for periods of time when I was much younger and I have surfed my whole life and craved the adventure life style. Two, after reading “In Search of Captain Zero” by Allen C. Weisbecker and reading a quote, it all but sealed the deal. I’m 60 years young and call it what you may, mid to late life crisis, stupidity, insanity, whatever, it ON!
The Quote
“South being the natural vanishment, a compass point of no return for the seriously committed.”
