BUILDING AS STAGE: Night & Day
Night & Day is an installation that seeks to draw awareness to NYU’s many global locations in Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, Ghana, Berlin, Prague, Shanghai, and more. It takes the form of a large-scale interactive projection on the facade of the Washington Square Arch that depicts the various skies of these international locations after dark in New York City.

Your Line or Mine
An interactive museum experience
“During a period of 9 months, over 50.000 visitors of theBlikopener Spot in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam added their drawing to Your Line or Mine.
In the space visitors find piles of preprinted sheets of A4 paper containing short drawing instructions. Once a drawing is finished, the visitor scans it. It is then directly added to the animation and projected onto projection screens in the space. It becomes apparent that on it’s own, each drawing is the result of a unique hand, but when they are strung together, the drawings form ever-evolving, dynamic animations.”

Concrete Jungle
Building as a Stage
Concrete jungle is an interactive projection mapped installation imagined on the Empire State building in New York City.
A real time ambient waterfall installation that projects visuals of water cascading down the structure of the Empire State building.
Viewers on the ground can interact with the waterfall and manipulate and disrupt the flow of the water.

INPUT
User 1: Speak the title of a book and the author’s name to Lion1
User 2: Speak the title of a book and the author’s name to Lion 2
OUTPUT
Animated Projection on building (output)
The sculptures on the exterior of the building come to life as 3d animated actors, acting out a summary of the (beginning, middle and end) of the story story chosen by the user 1.
If there is only one user and therefore one story, then that one story will project across the whole building
If a second user comes and inputs a story User 1’s projection will move to have of the building while User 2’s projection comes to life on the other half; if two of the “actors” from the two stories decide to interact then the audience will see the mergence of the two stories
PERFORMERS/ACTORS
Kinect Skeleton Tracking
Microphones
Each performer will be digitally attached to a sculpture on the building in which they will bring to life through projected animation.
LIONS
Each Lion will be illuminated and have an illuminated platform (w/ramp access) in which a user can easily come up and speak to the lion.
If no one is talking to the lion, the lion (through projection mapping) will call out to those on the street asking to talk to them. Once a user approaches the lion, the lion will provide instructions asking for the title and author of their favorite book (a stream of light then flows from the lion to the building providing a two-minute intro into the story, this allows time for the actors to read a small summary of the book) then the show begins.
If user 2 inputs a second story, a two-minute intro is started for that story while user 1’s story transitions down in scale to half of the building.
The visuals projected will be generative environments built from a narrative database. So as the user says the title and author the computer will scan the key elements of that narrative environment and interpret them through the set abstract aesthetic.
