a hint of a smile flashes past her features in a hurry, and she shrugs. itâs easy enough of a question ââ and sheâs sure of the answer, already. but something holds her back, it always does. even when the truth is as simple as it is pretty, maria feels that something dark has infested it, tainted it, darkened it. so itâs not quite as simple anymore ââ as to just say, â ice cream. â because surely, a girl with her upbringing has a sweet tooth, BUT itâs one that she chooses not to indulge, anymore. even sweetness can become rotten, can it not? so she gives the interviewer a long look, her smile a little bland. â rose perfume. â
DENNIS CREEVEY: If you could change one of the key moments in your life that shaped who you are as a person, would you?
how does one bring back a person from the dead? the questions might as well be the same. but she settles into another half enthusiastic smile, the kind that never reaches her eyes. â suppose it would have been nice to have written a book or two by now, yes? âÂ
MANDOLYN âMANONâ MIDGEN: Whatâs the one thing you wish to change most about yourself?
a quick pause follows the question, and a streak of brutal honesty seems to play behind her warm irises. â i wish i could be stronger. âÂ
WHERE: amaraâs office, hogwarts
WHEN: march 2nd, in the afternoon.
WHO: anyone at hogwarts, really.
grading papers wasnât necessarily amaraâ s favorite part of being a teacher â in fact, in her list of reasons why she never liked working with little kids or rowdy teenagers, grading papers was definitely the second, right below getting her eyebrows singed off by a first yearâs potion gone wrong.
sheâs trying to deciper an essay from one of her fifth years students (  who, by the looks of it, had no idea what he was writing about.  ), when she heard a knock on the door. she looked up, glancing the clock to her left. three thirty-seven in the afternoon. amara had nothing scheduled for three thirty-seven in the afternoon â she knows this, because she updates her planner religiously. still, an unwanted, unscheduled guest is better than grading papers, so she cleared her throat, stacking the papers off to the side.   â   come in.   â   she said, loud enough to be heard on the other side of the door.
" you need a break? â she says, entirely skipping the pleasantries that usually fall off her tongue so easily. maria is standing leaned against the door frame, her feet crossed in front of her. thereâs a slight smile tugging at her lips, and sheâs balancing a folder ( undoubtedly filled with unsorted parchment paper that could use a good old looking through ) and a cup of tea between her hands. â because iâm dying for one. if i have to read another made up rune tonight i think i might set my office on fire. i assume you know the feeling. â an apologetic smile grazes her lips and she arches an eyebrow, as if posing a question. the smile on her lips turns a little dry, borderline sarcastic. â or are all your students star pupils already? â
alright, so! i was looking for some more motivation to read all of your amazing intros, and i thought! hey! why not create an ask meme inspired by all of the wonderful characters in this roleplay! and after asking the admins if it was okay, and them agreeing to let me do this, i started choosing characters at random (using random.org), and reading about them until i came up with a question inspired by them! okay, so, fact is, i canât really read, so some of these may not make sense, but at least i tried? anyway, hereâs the first batch of 22 questions based on characters from this roleplay! the next batch should be coming either today or tomorrow! also, fun fact: these ask memes will be updated around every two weeks to include new characters!
LEONORA FLINT: Which emotion do you have the most difficulty expressing?
VIVIENNE âVIVâ CHANG: Do you have a competitive side, and if so, in what kind of situation does it come out most?
NATALIA DELACOUR-BARDON: Who is the one person youâd follow to the ends of the Earth, no matter what?
CECILY SKEETER-ATLAS: Whatâs the most scandalous thing youâve ever done?
WREN VOLANT: Whatâs your favourite luxury?
DENNIS CREEVEY: If you could change one of the key moments in your life that shaped who you are as a person, would you?
KATERINA âKATYAâ WOOD-KRUM: What role do you usually play in a team or a group?
AILYN WILKES: What is your stance when it comes to lying? Is lying ever acceptable, in your opinion?
MOLLY WEASLEY II: Do you think youâre strong enough for the war?
MAILAN PHAM: How far would you go for your family?
CLEO TRELAWNEY: Did your skills/gifts/talents come naturally to you, or did you have to work hard to acquire or control them?
OPAL TALKALOT: What do you desire most?
MANDOLYN âMANONâ MIDGEN: Whatâs the one thing you wish to change most about yourself?
JADE TALKALOT: Which side of the war do you think is the most powerful?
ROXANNE WEASLEY: What are you most proud of about who you are?
WILLIAM âBILLâ WEASLEY: What do you think is your greatest responsibility?
EZRA âZâ DIGGORY: How do you feel about religion?
LILY POTTER: Which of the main four elements do you think represents you best, and why?
OPHELIA ROSIER: Who, or what, do you resent most?
VERONIKA âVERAâ WOOD-KRUM: What are you most skilled at, in your opinion?
MERCY BORGIN: What is something youâve found out about your family, somewhat recently, that surprised you?
LEANDER FINNIGAN-THOMAS: Whoâs the best person (aka best at being a good person) you know or know of?

DIAGON ALLEY is where she feels the most at home. itâs a place she will always return to, even if what she once loved is no longer there. so itâs no wonder that MARIA FORTESCUE can be found slouching in one of the chairs, situated close to the very back of the pub. her posture is terrible, really, and her braids have come undone in all the rush. she doesnât seem to notice. in front of her, she has heaps of papers, and more quills than a person could ever possibly need. one of said quills are currently carelessly scratching on its own, marking answers on parchment paper as either very wrong, or very right. maria herself, is sipping on her butter beer, eyes intensely focused on the paper in front of her, a distracted finger tracing runes on parchment. something about their predictability --- their reasonableness, fills her with a sense of calm. what does not make her very calm, on the flip side, is the person sitting at the table next to her. she has been trying to tune them out for a good.... five minutes now. which, to maria, feels like quite a lot. way too long, anyways. she clears her throat. â excuse me? sorry? do you mind... not doing that ? â she finds herself adjusting her blouse awkwardly. never one for confrontation. even of the mildest kind. â itâs just that iâm trying to grade papers here. â not quite true. maria is focusing on her own research, but also.... technically grading papers. â trying to concentrate. â her voice is airy and light, but thereâs a sharpness to her eyes, a dagger in her stare.
with: any student or professor
where: the owlery
when: weekend
She had been in there for a total of two hours and thirty seven minutes - not that she was counting. Sitting herself down on the dirty ground, the hay was starting to itch her thighs and she awkwardly pulled her skirt back down to her knees. Approximately six and a half letters had been written to her mother, all of which she was promptly discarded of with a simple vanishing charm.
The mother should not have bothered to write in the first place and Analise felt her chest clench the moment sheâd received the owl that morning - the handwriting was a mess and firewhiskey stained the envelope so that only three quarters of the message was actually legible. She understood though - it was another nonsense rant from Jennifer Kim, scolding her daughter for being an ungrateful brat and for not caring enough for her dear, sick mother.
Only her mother was not sick, her mother was merely pathetic. âErgh!â she tossed her things aside in frustration, her ink well spilling over the barn floor and soaking the leftover sheets of parchment, âStupid, useless bitch.â Analise didnât realise until after that there was someone in there with her - most likely having arrived during the time she was concentrating on her failed letter writing - and that the ink had leaked towards the sole of their shoes.
âAh dang it,â she sighed, looking up at them from the ground, âSorry - didnât see you there.â
the world seems hazy as she walks up the slippery stairs to the owlery. or maybe itâs just the crushing hangover that humanizes her, makes her feel heavier, less present. could always be that. she doesnât bother going inside the owlery ---- her owl is clever enough to come out to her. her fingers tighten around the carefully executed letter in her grasp, and she lets out a low whistle, calling CLEMENCEÂ to her. the brown owl lands on her arms with a quiet thud, and immediately receives a treat in reward. maria has always been the type to indulge, indulge, indulge.Â
with her tongue sticking out between her teeth, she ties a string around clemenceâs foot, careful not to wrap it too tightly. â now ---- this oneâs important, cleo. â words are cooed slowly, softly. a finger traces the owlâs beak, lets it nibble on her finger. â off you go, then. â and the bird spreads its wings and flies away. leaving maria to deal with her own problems.Â
she hears something from within the owlery ---- and curiosity has not killed this cat yet, so she canât help herself. a little sneaking around has rarely killed anyone, has it? so she walks inside, right as a student curses loudly. an eyebrow raises in surprise, and she has to stop herself from smiling. would definitively not be appropriate. maria will indulge many things, but not that. â excuse me? â she says, her eyes narrowing. â donât think i quite caught that, miss...? â she waits for the person to tell her their name. her features soften. can never stay cross for long. â is everything all right ? â
â EVIL - it blooms. it eats. it grins. â MAIA MITCHELL? No, thatâs actually MARIA FORTESCUE. Only TWENTY FIVE years old, this HUFFLEPUFF alumni works as a STUDY OF ANCIENT RUNES PROFESSOR and is sided with THE DOUBLE AGENTS (THE DEATH EATERS). SHE identifies as CIS-WOMAN and is a PURE-BLOOD who is known to be RUTHLESS, MISGUIDED, and EASILY DISTRACTED but also PRAGMATIC, KIND, and POSITIVE. { LIZ, 22, GMT+2, SHE/HER }
aesthetics: thereâs something soft in me ( ... we killed it and itâs rotting ), the smell of freshly baked cookies, good intentions, constant heartbreak, that one teacher that brings hot chocolate and blankets for the entire class only because she thought it was cold this morning, oversized earrings, watching the same muggle movie over and over again, never being able to decline a dare and doing what you believe is right, even if you may be proven wrong later.

BACKGROUND/FAMILY/SCHOOL YEARS.
maria is the daughter of florean fortescue and his wife, seline. her childhood was spent in his ice cream shop, in diagon alley - where she would run around the place, always finding another customer to charm. she was the kind of child to smile at everything life threw her way ---- almost as if that sugary sweetness she was raised on became part of her very being, her blood.Â
torture tw >>>>
now ---- maria was never exposed to the war. nor did her father like talking about it very much, either. he had scars, for sure. the death eaters at the time had tortured him for information about the deathly hallows, and the elder wand. the wand to end all wars. florean had only been released after he had revealed what he knew, and then, it would take a long time before he would return to his former self. maria was born five years later, and that day ----- florean fortescue swore to himself that he would never talk about what had once been, ever again. the war was over. voldemort was dead. maria would grow up only knowing kindness and hope and never ending compassion and generosity.
end of tw <<<<
so her upbringing was sheltered. she was always doted upon and cared for. they were living in a post-war world, and her parents felt that theresa was a beacon of light and hope and sainthood ---- but most importantly, they believed that her world would be better. SHE would be better. they hoped that her name alone would speak it into existence.
her father was somewhat of an amateur historian, he spent copious amount of time gathering sources, information and literature on everything from the medieval witch burnings to the deathly hallows. if he had been less fueled by his need to bring joy into peopleâs lives, he would have become a professor, or a historian, or a researcher. but florean fortescue was not an ambitious man by any means, and would rather earn his keep by making people smile.
maria was raised on ice cream and stories, mostly. her mother was an author, who specialized in writing stories for witches ( think the kind of stuff molly weasley would be interested in reading ). but she was also a master storyteller, and maria was her favorite audience.
she shows up at hogwarts, and gets sorted into hufflepuff without the hat barely having to touch her head. and with them ---- she thrives. then again, maria has never not thrived. ever since her childhood, she has been that person that everything seems to run off, like water. maria is the girl thatâs always smiling, never raises her voice, remains sweet like sugar and honey and everything nice.
though maria was overall very academically successful, she excelled especially in a history of magic and in the study of ancient runes.
could usually be found by the lake, in the library or in the hufflepuff dormitory.
known for sneaking into the kitchens and demanding to let the house elves let her cook something up ---- just something small, wonât take long, she promises.
AFTER HOGWARTS.
murder tw, parental death cw >>>>
sheâs 23 when her father is brutally murdered in cold blood. sheâs the one to find him. their ice cream parlour has been brutalized ---- but nothing has been taken. sheâll find out later that he was the casualty of a fight between death eaters and remnants of a fallen order. sheâll never find out who fired the curse that killed him. sheâll always blame herself for not having had been there, instead being busy with her books and her career.
end of tw <<<<
without her father, the ice cream shop doesnât seem worth rebuilding, so she lets it fall into history. instead, she focuses on her job, and decides to pick up a position at hogwarts, as a professor. she has always been great with kids, and teaching comes naturally for her ----- itâs like second nature. so it makes sense, at the time.
sheâs a baby professor!!!! this is her second year of teaching!!!!! sheâs doing her best !!!!!
little does she know that a war is at the horizon, and itâs only gonna get worse.
murder tw, parental death tw, depression tw >>>>
ANYWAYS before i go on forever about this, maria has no experience of war. so when it comes knocking, she doesnât know what the fuck to do. she doesnât have her father to look to, and her mother has closed herself off since his death. maria only has herself, and all of her instincts are screaming at her to get the fuck out.
end of tw
but she canât do that, can she? she has students, little children, to take care of. so maria puts on her bravest face, and tries to think like her father ---- her idol, her role model. so she joins the newly reformed order.
parental death cw, death cw >>>>
but months pass ----- not much changes. the war rages on. and she still hasnât found any leads on who was there when her father died. she becomes distraught ---- confused. slowly, her number of friends start to dwindle. people die around her. she has to attend several funerals for her own students, and it kills her. little by little. it takes something from her, it steals tiny pieces of her soul. the order doesnât seem that appealing anymore, does it? how the fuck are they gonna win this war? she has killed people in its name, and for what? resentment starts to grow, and it slowly turns into something darker, deeper, more vile.
end of tw >>>>
so she seeks them out ---- the death eaters. she starts to think that theyâre the only way to end this, the only way to make all this bloodshed stop. but sheâs inexperienced, a little naive. she only wants to help, really. who cares who wins, as long as the war ends? maybe if the other side wins, itâll stick this time. third timeâs the charm, and all that. maria only wants it to stop.
before she knows it, sheâs doing unspeakable things in the name of something so unholy that she can barely speak the words. self doubt plagues her ---- will this all be worth it in the end? sheâs fairly certain that sheâs on the wrong side of history now, but sheâs so loyal to her friends, to her students ---- she canât stand by and watch them die.Â
currently, maria is still in the order. but she keeps distancing herself, making herself less available, pretending that sheâs always busy with work. it pains her to betray people --- even though she doesnât technically think thatâs what sheâs doing. sheâs just hurrying the process along, right? it will all sort itself out, in the end.
torture tw >>>>
found her fatherâs notebooks on the deathly hallows and is currently pouring all of her energy into researching his work and all those things that he never bothered to tell her ( and yes, she feels betrayed by that, too. ) has also discovered her fatherâs journals, and all the information he withheld from her about the second wizarding war. now sheâs kinda pissed at both the death eaters and the order, because 1) the death eaters kidnapped and tortured her dad. 2) the order did nothing to stop it, or save him, AND then basically covered up what happened once he was released.Â

PERSONALITY.
mariaâs heart is in the right place, most of the time. she thinks too much of the bigger picture, and is desperate To Do Good.Â
a little too trusting? has a hard time seeing peopleâs true colors.
cares too much probably. really invested in her teaching and her students.
can be a really strict teacher!!!! will roast u if late. is always very punctual herself and expects the same in return.
doesnât believe in this blood purity nonsense, but also doesnât think that will actually stick once the war is over. she genuinely thinks that everything will go back to normal, if everyone would just stop fucking fighting !!!!!!!!
like i said, very misguided.Â
genuinely believes this will all work out if she just !!!!! can make !!!! the fighting !!!!! stop !!!!!
one gal against the world, ya feel !!!!!
always smiling !!!! that girl who will smile at u as u walk past just because she can and she wants to make u happy !!!!
plays with her hair a lot, itâs a problem
very passionate abou t classic art and history and ancient runes!!!! will fight u about it, get ready for a 150 page essay about why u are wrong
makes a lot of questionable decisions on a whim? problematic behavior right there
also cannot physically say no to a dare. miss maria will. do it... just watch
very, very afraid!!!!! right now, maria is lowkey terrified of both the order and the death eaters. she has seen some shit and doesnât know who the fuck to trust. hot take: theyâre all badÂ
would die for her students!!!Â
has a cat called stereo and an owl called clemence.
tries to give her students a sense of normalcy, but cannot afford to give herself the same courtesy. maria had a normal childhood - she wants the same for her students. if that means that she has to do What It Takes to try to make the war end? well, thatâs what sheâs gonna do.
with that said --- is the type of girl to find a solution to every problem! even if it means going against ur very nature bc u think thIS is THE only wAY to hAVE things gO bacK to normal !!!!! i never said her logic was flawless !!!!! sheâs a scared girl trying to do what is right !!!! even if itâs so wrong ! ha
