Notes: This has been already posted on my Wattpad and on my AO3, but since Tumblr lacks Ridyūken content, I'll also publish it here :)
. . . . . . . . . .
"Hey, Yū!"
Yūken Enma stopped when he heard him being called, so he turned to see who had shouted his name, finding that Riddle approached him at full speed before stopping a few steps away from him and starting to breathe several times in a row at the same time that he leaned forward and rested his hands on his knees.
"Are you okay?" asked the one with jet hair, worried about the housewarden of Heartslabyul's house.
"Y-Yes. Give me a minute...” the redhead whispered before taking a deep breath and standing up, looking directly at Yūken's eyes, already composed, as he coughed, pretending that that had not happened. “I was looking for you”.
"Ah, nice, because I was looking for you," replied the taller one before adding: "I wanted to ask you, by chance haven't you seen in Heartslabyul a book with a cover that is...?
"...Blue with the word "Japanese" in golden letters?" Riddle interrupted at the same time as he took the book out of his school bag.
Yūken smiled at the same time that he extended his hands, receiving in them the book that the redhead extended to him.
"Thank you very much. It is likely that, when I paid you a visit yesterday, it fell out of my bag," commented the jet. “It's one of the few things of my world that I have with me, you know? Thank you”.
"Mondainai," replied the housewarden of Heartslabyul, shaking his head a couple of times. Yūken blinked, surprised to hear that word from his upperclassmen's lips. “Is something going on?”
"Did you just say "no problem" in Japanese?" the kendo player asked.
"Oh, yes. When you left the book, it was already late, so I couldn't help but take a look inside," Riddle confessed, running the tip of his index finger over his cheek, somewhat embarrassed. “Even though there were many things I didn't understand, thanks to the fact that it contained indications in a language I knew I could understand them, so I think I now understand a little of that language” the redhead looked at the book that Yūken was still holding and asked: “That's your native language, right?”
"Yes. Even though I use English to communicate with you...”
"...You're not a native speaker: it shows in the accent and in the way you sometimes run over yourself when saying the words," the Rosehearts finished.
Both he and Yūken were silent for a few seconds, looking into each other's eyes, before laughing lightly in unison.
"Wow, I'll have to get my batteries on to get better," said the jet. Quickly, he realized something, so he raised his head back towards the redhead—: “True. Why have you been learning my language, Riddle?”
"Because you are the only one who understands it, and I wanted to learn it to have a way to communicate with you without anyone else finding out. As if it were a secret language between two friends, you know?” confessed the housewarden of Heartslabyul, breaking eye contact with his friend.
Yūken tilted his head, but before he could say anything, he heard a noise coming from his mobile phone, so he took the electronic device out of his pants pocket and looked at the notification bar.
"Excuse me, Riddle, but I have to go: apparently, Grim is fighting with Ruggie again for making him give him his lunch," the jet sighed before putting his phone back in his pants.
"Oh, yes. Less there be a big scandal, right?” the redhead tilted his head at the same time that Yūken nodded and began to leave.
"I'll see you later, Riddle. And thank you again for giving me back my book” Yūken finished as he turned around and put the book in his bag, starting to move away from that area of the corridor.
"Ah, Yū," Riddle raised his voice, making the named one stop and turn his head to look at his partner. “Daisuki”, he said in a low voice, with a smile from ear to ear on his lips.
Yūken opened his eyes like plates, feeling the tip of his ears heat up because of that simple word in his language. He heard someone a few steps away; they seemed to have choked on something.
"Can you repeat what you said? I don't think I've heard it well” the jet whispered, believing that he had imagined that...
"What, daisuki?" Or maybe aishiteru?”
No. Definitely, he hadn't imagined it.
"Riddle, did you get to learn the meaning of that word?" Yūken asked, with his ears even redder than before.
"It's a way of saying that you like someone, right?" Riddle replied, perplexed. After that, a muffled noise was heard again, but neither of those present gave it importance.
Yūken took a deep breath before approaching Riddle and saying:
"But to like in what sense?"
"That you like someone as a person. That you want someone as a friend".
The jet blinked before laughing lightly and whispering:
“Kawaiidesu ne”.
"W-Why did you just say I'm cute?" Riddle mused, bringing his right hand to his lips to hide his blush.
"Because you have made an adorable mistake: what you have said, daisuki and aishiteru are words that are usually used to confess to the person you love," Yūken replied.
Riddle looked his friend in the eyes before blushing completely, causing Yūken to laugh again. That only caused the redhead to hide his face between his hands after cursing his lips.
"Don't worry, Riddle, you're still learning, and I understand that it was just a mistake," said the kendo player, crouching a little at the height of his partner.
Riddle made a space through his fingers, looking through him at the boy in front of him.
“S-So... How do I say "I love you, I like you as a person", huh?” Riddle whispered in a hesitant voice.
Yūken took his right hand to his chin at the same time as he stood up. Then, he tilted his head and said:
"I think the most appropriate form is suki, since, although it is also used to say that you like someone, it is a rather generic form, since it means "I like you", which can be both romantic and friendly”.
"Suki..." whispered the Rosehearts as he lowered his hands. "Suki, Suki, Suki...” he repeated, as long as the word stayed in his mind.
"You pronounce it well, you know? Well, now I do have to leave, it's likely that in what I'm wearing here Grim has already started to cap," Yūken apologized, sketching a guilty smile. “Then I'll stop by Heartslabyul and help you if you want with Japanese, okay?”
Riddle blinked before smiling and nodding twice.
"Thank you, Yū."
The aforementioned smiled before waving his hand as a farewell and leaving there.
...
"Do you see why I told you not to talk?" Trey whispered, hiding behind the corner of one of the walls that connected to the corridor where Riddle was.
Slowly, he moved his hand away from Cater's lips, who until that moment had been forced to remain silent.
"I'm sorry, but I've gotten excited," the redhead apologized, pouting a little. “And on top of that, you haven't let me take pictures. What happens if I see something that excites me and I want to express it?”
"Twice?"
"What do you want me to do if Riddle has said three times that he loves Yū?" Cater asked, tilting his head.
"One, did you understand what he was saying?" And two, how do you know he hasn't made a mistake?” Trey crossed his arms, looking at his boyfriend.
"One, I was the one who gave the book to Riddle, obviously I took a look at it. And two, do you really think Riddle would be wrong in something like that?” Cater smiled, turning around the matter that his boyfriend had brought up.
Trey blinked before sighing and looking over his shoulder at where Riddle was, who had his head down and his fists clenched.
"No, and even less after seeing that the words he said were written down yesterday in his notebook," the green-haired one finally said, looking at Cater out of the corner of his eye.
They both looked at Riddle one last time, who raised his head decisively and whispered:
