"let's keep power imbalances in roleplay" but this is a story as much as any roleplay is a story? i am so confused by this tag. i agree its not a healthy dynamic but if its ok to enjoy that in roleplay why is it not ok to enjoy it in a tv show...? isn't a tv show already separated from reality for the purpose of enjoying fucked up stuff safely? the books and the show are both basically a series of fucked up events and filled to the brim with toxic dynamics, so why is it a problem only when it's rhaenicent?
BY ALL MEANS consume any type of media that you want but please remember what we're talking about: a show that was initially meant to be social commentary grappling many things such as sexism classism and power imbalances and still prefaces itself as such despite having completely lost the plot. what good does romanticizing and building up a relationship that's bound to be filled to the brim with these same issues do? it's just not an appropriate context full on hypocritical even. there's nothing forcing me to root for a specific couple/ship in every series i watch which is why i don't engage with any toxic dynamic in asoiaf beyond acknowledging that they're toxic. rhaenicent is just one of many.
