I had a really strange dream brought on from remembering a book I read a long time ago, Into The Land Of The Unicorns or something. I remembered a part in the book describing what happens to a unicorn's body when it dies, parts of the creature returning to the earth in various ways.
Then the goofy dream I had.
There was a knight in an evil king's employ.
An apprentice witch to another witch that was pretending to be a maiden in disguise..
The knight was in cahoots with the maiden to help her with subterfuge. The king wanted rare creatures/items/people/relics, he wanted immortality and to DOOM all over the place. The knight, the maiden, and her apprentice saved many.
The king's plans didn't work, he got desperate, hired some goons/hunters with scary stuff up their sleeves. They were sent to spy/gather info as to why plans were failing, etc.
At this point in the trio's mission- they encounter(first time) a young unicorn, dainty, curious and gentle , it had not fully grasped the current flow of the world. The trio (knight/maiden/apprentice) were besides themselves. And for a short time, they got to know each other & continue to save others /got to become a good team.
The unicorn was keen on the healing & medicine, herbs, cleaning waters,etc.
The king's goons catch on, they spill the info, the king basically orders the hit, everybody gotta die, bring the unicorn corpse.
First the maiden was suddenly annihilated from a hail of arrows that seemingly burst from the tree tops & set aflame & With the last of her hidden magic she was able to warn her apprentice. (All of her crystals/orbs/houseplants exploded that were near the apprentice & unicorn)
The knight was ambushed at the barracks by goons & paid off fellow (greedy bastards)knight brothers. He was drawn and quartered, remains stuffed in a trunk & tossed into a lake.
The goons in the king's employ had their own magically inclined fiends. Tracking the youngsters was easy, they did attempt a fight against the fiends, team effort with roses (a favourite flower between the unicorn & apprentice), brambles, thorns, rocks, vines etc.
The apprentice was dying from a magic malady from taking out the magic inclined goon, overwhelming & uncontrollable slow bodily destruction and then the unicorn , not meant for this world, tried to cure the apprentice-- the kind creature died from the vile residual traps from the magic goon corpses.
Goons, wanting the unicorn corpse for themselves, argue. They were too distracted to notice the last action from the apprentice was that she turned the unicorn's body into a single rose & shielding the flower with her body.
And then I woke up thinking I was insane.
