Sketches in the Air: Delicate Figures Drawn in the Air with Welded Steel Rods by Gavin Worth

Artist Gavin Worth (previously) works with repurposed steel rods and wire welded into two dimensional sculptures appear as illustrated line drawings. Some of the artworks are meant to be viewed against the dramatic backdrop of the sky, or can be amplified through projected light and shadow. Other pieces, like his 2012 sculpture Thirst, have a kinetic component and can be rotated to reveal opposing images.

Worth recently lived in Egypt for three years and has since relocated to Switzerland. He opens a new exhibition of work at Barbara Frigerio Contemporary Art in Milan starting later this month. Thanks Colossal

Little Stool - Antonio Arico’

Simple to build, Little Stool plays with the archetype of a common stool. Minimal but with characterful details, his legs located in front and in the back form layers and shadows. This re-adaptation gives more visual depth to a simple stool and brings stability and strength.

Fun and playful, the stools can be put together to become a couple or friends. Having one is useful, two or three is even more practical and it is the perfect gift to kids or young adults that we all are.

Mac Attack

Jessica Stoll is a recent industrial design graduate from Arizona State University. Her redesign of the McDonald’s Big Mac packaging brings the iconic sandwich into modernity, replacing its dull and dated cardboard clamshell with a reinvigorated and vibrant tri-purpose holder. The holder allows consumers to carry the meal with handles, fold its sides to eat easily while seated, or stand upright at a table. While the package was painstakingly designed, the final product should not be taken too seriously.

Let out a giggle, eat some fries and get your Mac attack on.

Living Cities by Victor Enrich

Victor Enrich sees cities in a unique way.  A Catalan artist working in Barcelona, he gives buildings “self-determination” .  To him cities are alive, and so in his art buildings bend and stretch, even jump.  According to Victor Enrich:

Each part of the city acts as a catalyst of feelings, ideas and digressions that, once after its empowered soul emerges, becomes alive, unrestricted from norms, ready to fly into new, yet unexplored shapes (via Victor Enrich)

I agree @pumpkinsketchbook I also question the comfort factor….but I think it is an interesting design concept given the need to investigate sustainable design (reducing impact/climate change). In this instance methods for applying folding techniques, such as origami; opens potential new ways of reducing the footprint of shipping goods. Of course the ideal is local design/manufacutre. But if we do ship goods, at least make them light & able to be flat packed to make transport/shipping more effective. .. I think this design has potential. ..
