Usually, Michael spent his days either teaching and working, training, or visiting his family, with no real room for much else in between. But every so often he took a day off, exploring the beauty of the towns (especially Point). And on a beautiful day like today, he decided to travel to Point to walk along the water. It was a great place to meditate and free his mind. He noticed Theodore comment over to him and he smiled in agreement. “It really is.” He didn’t know the other very well, but he did recall that he had once found his force field fascinating. Michael himself found Theodore fascinating. “No worries at all,” he exclaimed kindly heading closer to him. “Can I ask what you’re working on?”
Beyond his power, and a general sense that he was not a troublemaker or difficult person, Theodore didn’t know Michael well. Certainly, not well enough to have spoken to him about his research before. He shrugged, closing the notebook and turning most of his attention to the other man, though part of his mind was always on the next thing–in this case, more observations. “I’m researching for my PhD. Looking at–” Here, he always faltered. Technically, he should be careful about saying something about his work that would change how people behaved. He wanted to observe, to be unobtrusive. “Looking at how people relate to their powers, I guess.” More accurately, how the scientists related to people’s powers, but that was the sort of detail he needed to be careful about. “Seeing who uses them and how often and for what. Or that’s what I’m observing today. You haven’t used yours yet from what I observed, but you did only just come a short while ago.”
"Oh, fascinating," Michael replied, after listening and nodding. "What will your findings be used for?" He asked, genuinely intrigued. He was not the kind of person to assume people had the wrong intentions. He thought it might be useful for scientists to understand powers more. That's why they were here, in Greensville, after all, some part of the reason, at least. "Would you like me to use my power? Or now that I have become aware of you it would alter your findings?"

Religion was complicated. It wasn’t so easy to believe in something not only that you cannot see or hear, but something you have to struggle to feel. Believing in a power that, on the surface, seems like it either has abandoned you or never was real in the first place. As Michael watched a despondent Sophie walk past him, he sought his brain for words to attempt to solace her, but came up short. However, he did walk over to her, and sit down beside her on the steps. “Is it okay if I sit here with you for a little while?” He asked with a soft smile. “I don’t really want to go in there right now, either.”

“Uh, y-yeah.” Sophia stammered, glancing up at Michael. She should have expected him to follow, see if she was alright – He was a nice person, and had always been nice to her in the past. “Something stopping you or you just making an excuse to see if I’m really alright?” The female asked, though there was a smile on her lips showing she appreciated it if the latter were true.
“A little bit of both,” Michael replied honestly with a tug of a playful smile. Opening up to someone was a two way communication. He can never expect someone to be vulnerable with him if he cannot show that being vulnerable was okay. To show that whatever Sophie was going through, she was not alone, even if whatever she was going through something he might not be able to relate to. He looked at his fingers and he told her, his playful smile still remaining a smile on his lips but fading into sadness, “It’s my father’s birthday. Or, it would have been,” he told her looking at her. He didn’t expect her to open up to him. Just because he opened up to her, doesn’t mean she now owed him to open up to him. Talking didn’t work that way. Friendships didn’t work that way. But he liked Sophie, he could trust her with opening up to her, and it felt a little good to talk about, anyhow, and now he had opened up a window for creating the safe space between them.
perhaps love and kindness are practices rather than feelings or states of being

Michael was in line at the coffee shop, longing for a tea and perhaps even a muffin to hold him over. He had just come from training at the facility and needed a breather. His eyes widened when he saw the glass shatter but he quickly and instinctively stepped forward. He provided her a kind smile and said to the barista, “Two herbal teas, please, extra honey.” He turned to the woman, “On me,” he explained kindly with patient eyes. It was then that he wondered if she was the one he had heard in the training facility. He was busy training someone else, but it was a sonic scream that everyone in the building at the time was able to hear. “It’s okay,” he said softly. “You don’t need to say anything. In fact, don’t–rest your voice.”
Natasha was more than thankful for the kindness of the man who stepped forward, making the order she had been trying so desperately to get out, but above all, for not looking at her as dangerous. She mustered the best half smile she could at him, nodding a thank you. Natasha stepped over to the side, away from the carnage she had created with her scream, keeping her fingers twisted in front of her to hide the shaking. “Thank you,” she mouthed to him, mentally trying to place his face, knowing she had seen it recently, “I didn’t hurt anybody, did I?” She spoke the question, her voice small and cracking as she did.
Having worked as a powers trainer for around three years, he had seen all the worst sides of people. He’s seen the fury beyond containment, the snark in the sneer, but what broke him the most, the ones he remembered the most, were those who were shattered by their own fear. All he can really do is his best to calm them down and let them know that they’re not alone. He smiled softly at the woman, “Of course.” What he was about to answer, he couldn’t know for sure. But he was certain that if someone really did get incurably hurt, there would have been a bigger scene than there was. So he said certainty, “No. No one got hurt.” The barista called out their order, and he took the two teas, handing hers over to her. “Let it calm you.”

Michael didnt often come to the church. He wasnt that religious. He wasnt really sure he was religious at all. To which god, he wasnt sure. If there was a god, he didnt know. He didnt really pray to a god particularly, anyhow. Church was just a place to talk, a medium to his dad. And he missed him today. Attempting to gain some meditation, he closed his eyes. And thats when he was nearly knocked over unexpectedly. His eyes opened and he saw Sophia in front of him. “It’s okay, no worries.” He frowned a little tilting his head to the side. “Are /you/ okay?”

“Y-Yeah, I’m okay I just think that maybe I’m not going in there today.” She murmured, hugging her arms to her chest as she looked up at Michael. It wasn’t something you’d hear often from Sophia, in fact, she hadn’t really said it to anyone before and it made her feel worse somehow. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you. I’m just gonna move out the way.” The young blonde sighed, and moved to sit on the steps, head in her hands.

The greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same. We are all one people, but we live as if divided.
