To coincide with Howard Davies' production of Sean O'Casey's The Silver Tassie, I produced this short film looking at the playwright's relationship with the Abbey Theatre which came to an abrupt end with this play.

Over the past few weeks Ireland has suddenly found itself in a heated debate around the term 'homophobia' after an interview with, and subsequent censorship of, Rory O'Neill (AKA Panti Bliss) on The Saturday Night Show. This discussion is no longer about the proposed referendum on marriage equality, it has become a question of equality - something that is not true for Irish gay men, gay women, women and other minority groups.

Ireland is a beautiful country, and the homophobia is not the type present in many other countries around the world but there has to be change. And thankfully there are people like Rory O'Neill who are not afraid to have an open discussion about it.

Here are four short films created as part of a filmmaking competition I set-up, a collaboration between National Theatre and IdeasTap. Each team saw the show, took part in a story workshop and were assigned a professional filmmaker to support them and, I hope you'll agree, the results are very different and fascinating.
