hey hey hey everyone!! as a self-proclaimed mathlete & absolute math nerd, i figured i could share some quick little tips for such an amazing subject! soooo here you go:
practice, practice, practice!!
I always say that practice is the most essential aspect of studying & learning math- and many other subjects! This can take the form of homework (mini tip: always do your homework if you are able!!! itâs only to your benefit! even if itâs not for a grade, try your best to work on it anyway), practice problems from a textbook or workbook, old questions from a past quiz or test, etc. Even just a couple of practice problems every day, or some quick qâs before a test, can help a lot. Remember, repetition is a key form of revision!
take active notes
Math is a very active subject, so itâs important for your notes to reflect that. Basically, if youâre working on an example problem in the middle of your notes, write it down too. These problems can come back in quizzes or tests, and they really help reinforce material when youâre reviewing. Another way to keep your notes active is by drawing diagrams!! Diagrams can be essential for certain topics, so please donât ignore them, even if you think you can remember what that graph looks like. Also, if you ever need to jot something down in the margins of your notes, do it! All of this will really help when you review.
know your calculatorÂ
Whether you need to know how to use one, or how to survive without one, calculators are pretty much always relevant when it comes to math. If the subject youâre learning allows it, you should always have a calc nearby, and you should know its basic functions. That doesnât mean know how to add & subtract (unless thatâs all thatâs necessary for you), it means being able to work the graphing function, or how to enter data into your calculator for statistical evaluation, how to find certain functions in your calc, etc. Itâs also very important to know how to work without your calculator. As you progress in math, there will be certain things that you just need to know how to do, because they take too long with a calc. Basically, make sure you understand what youâre doing with your calculator, so that you can understand how to do it without your calculator.
keep track of everything!
Math is a lot of data & different steps that you need to keep track of. When working on something, know where your numbers (or other forms of data) are, make sure you arenât missing any! Do your best not to skip steps, even if youâre great at working in your head. Missing data & skipped steps are major sources of error and tiny mistakes that can mess up a whole problem. Also, know your common errors! Do you tend to skip a certain step because you think youâve got it? Do you sometimes misinterpret graphs or data? Once youâve figured that out, be extra careful with the specific problems that you have trouble with. Keeping track of your work & your mistakes can help you improve a lot!
memorize what needs to be memorized
A lot of math can be done with basic understanding of how to work a problem & the process to find a solution (these things are generally memorized with practice!) but there are some things that just need to be memorized. Whether itâs elementary functions like addition & division, or basic trigonometry, if itâs not a process you can learn through understanding, and need to know, make sure you know!! Some things can be memorized with practice, and others require different methods of memorization (I typically write & rewrite things multiple times). You can find some great posts on memorization here!

How do I post original content??
reblog donât repost!! This is an obvious one but if youâre new to tumblr altogether you need to know that itâs never ok to steal someone elseâs content. Also donât reblog from weheartit because all the stuff on that website it stolen!!
the most common posts on studyblr are photos of notes - itâs a good idea to make sure the colours in your photo are aesthetically pleasing, and that you have a good source of light. Natural light is best but lamplight will work as well. If your photos need more light, increase the exposure on your camera/phone. People donât need to see the whole of your notes, try taking photos of them from different angles to show off the bits youâre most proud of! more tips in this post
share some motivational quotes - I use picmonkey to design quotes
make a masterpost of your favourite resources
make a study playlist on 8tracks and share it on your blog
tagging is the most useful thing ever - tag your posts with #studyblr and #studyspo so that other people in the community can find you! More tags = more ways for people to find you, so make sure to add plenty of tags to everything you upload. If you tag a studyblr in your post, itâs likely theyâll reblog it.
open your ask box - itâs a great way to get suggestions for new posts, and its always lovely to hear from other studyblrs in the community
Welcome to the studyblr community, good luck with your studies!

good vibes to fill your room when you need to shut out the world and finish that essay or let out stress or celebrate irony
itâs a warm, slow day; sunlight pours through the window and time feels honeyed as you curl up with a book and a cup of tea and no responsibilities
on a road trip that leads to the sea; falling in love with nature and life and music and your best friend; feeling at peace
heartbreak, missed connections, star crossed lovers and falling out of love; whatever the opposite of a love song is
the hazy feeling of a suburbian love affair, somewhere between realitiy and a sonic dreamscape
old crush whose name and laughter still linger in your mind and itâs a vague kind of longing but oh, itâs definitely there
when you need to either astral project or escape into a seperate plane of existance, just for a little while
itâs anywhere between one and six am but youâre still awake and that very fact spirals you into a feeling of equal parts exhaustion and existentialism
RARE STUDY TIPS
1. write down how much you study over time, then write down how you did on the quiz/test. this will help you see the amount of studying is nessecary for you to get a good grade and fully learn the material!!!
2. make your study space smell fresh, preferably of mint. mint helps you focus and stay sharp. other good smells would be lemon, etc.
3. after studying for a long amount of time, go exercise for ~30 min. shower, get dressed, etc then review the info you had just been studying! you should come back fresher, and your brain is able to remember the info even better!
4. donât always study in comfy/pj clothes. if you study a lot after school or classes, then itâs ok. but if all you plan on doing is studying for that day, for part of the day get dressed up! put on some business casual wear, thatâs cute yet functional and do your hair, etc. this will put you in a âget shit doneâ mode.
5. after studying a unit/chapter, record yourself explaining it, as if to a person whose never heard of it. this helps SO MUCH. one, explaining/teaching helps you learn so much better, and two, you have a little video to review just before the test!!
6. study on the floor. if you have a carpeted area in your home, spread out all study materials, a white board, etc and study! it helps so much because you are comfertable and everything is within reach. do this if you need a break from desk studying.
||1.11.2015 11:20|| Found myself a new studying place. Such a beautiful day with a perfect natural lightingđđŒ
