michael jackson, a singer whose glory days of fame and fans never ended—they just got quieter. kind of.

aside from being constantly recognised wherever he went, whether in airport lounges or expensive hotel lobbies, his life was pretty relaxed now.

the frantic juggling of tour dates, performances, interviews, and recording sessions were somewhat behind him. his latest album, released six years ago, did very well and all. people have started to move on from the moon-walking legend, the king of pop.

that was until the tabloids found out about you.

a young, pretty, successful actress. five oscars at just twenty-five years old. paparazzi wherever you went, fan mail daily from men who would never get a chance with you. you'd been a hot topic in hollywood for a few years now.

but that day a few months ago, when photographers captured you getting into a black suv with none other than michael himself, turned that "hot topic" into a scandal engulfed in flames of ridicule, shock, and controversy.

"he's old enough to be her father!" "the way he looks at her, you'd think he'd found heaven itself." "she wants him for the fame, it's obvious!" "they're so in love, it makes me want to cry and throw up at the same time."

the contrast of the comments you heard almost gave you whiplash. the tabloids loved counting the years between you, almost as much as they loved counting the digits that came in as the stupid papers sold rapidly.

you almost thought it was funny. you didn't care about what they had to say. you knew it was real, and nobody could tell you otherwise. even when you and a male co-star had seemingly gotten particularly close while filming. he flirted, gave you charming smiles, which you politely ignored with an awkward laugh.

arriving home after a particularly gruelling interview with said co-star, you found yourself in the kitchen, glass of red wine in hand. you can barely take one sip before you felt his presence behind you.

"funny," michael murmurs, setting a novel down on the counter of the marble-top island as he took a seat on the bar stool, his back to you. "didn't know you were into hollywood douches like him."

you laugh, not only because it's ridiculous, but also because he's genuinely annoyed.

"mikey," you turn, leaning back against the cool stone counter. "you know how irritating i find him. he means absolutely nothing to me." you take a step toward him, your hands going to rest on his stiff, broad shoulders. you lean down slightly, your soft lips brushing the shell of his ear in a whisper. "especially when i have you."

michael relaxes under your touch, the tenseness draining from his shoulders almost instantly. "you're acting like i chose to work with him." you say with a quiet roll of your eyes that he can't see.

he sighs, turning the stool around to face you. he wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you down to sit you in his lap. "i'm sorry..." he murmurs, burying his face in your hair. he inhales deeply, pressing a soft kiss to your jaw. "i don't mean to be controlling."

you smile, moving your hands to the side of his face to make him look up at you. "you aren't being controlling." you assure softly, looking into his eyes that sparkled with a tiny hint of shyness. "you're just being a caring partner. you know how much i love you, and i wouldn't trade you for anything in the world. understood?"

a small smile tugs at the corners of his lips, but he manages to suppress the grin that threatened to break out across his face. "yes, baby. understood." he replies in a hushed murmur.

thriller!michael — who gets very shy when you talk to him. even though he tries to pretend that he’s confident around you, he’ll always manage to stumble over his words or say something embarrassing. he rubs the back of his neck shyly as you giggle at him, feeling his cheeks burn.

thriller!michael — who enjoys giving you little playful compliments every now and then. “i like what you’ve done with your hair today.” “i like that colour on you, it’s stunning.” “you have really beautiful hands, i’ve just noticed.” very random, yet flustering compliments. you give a shy smile, managing a quiet ‘thank you’ before glancing away.
