My two favorite barbers. The only brothers I trust with the baldy and the beard. They are more than barbers though. They are artists. They are able to take the mess on the heads of young boys and grown men and create masterpieces that enhance our confidence and security. Don't take barbers for granted because more often than not when we get up from their chairs we feel like we can take on the world. So I celebrate @boozworld and @t_jizzle_kuts today. Tomorrow evening at 7pm we gather to remember the lives of the 9 that were taken from us last year in Charleston, the 49 that were taken from us this past weekend in Orlando, and all of those who have been victims of gun violence, hate, and domestic terrorism. We gather as community to pray not only with our lips but with our hands and feet as well. Today I witnessed my two brothers cross the stage to receive their master of divinity degree. I am beyond proud of them and I wait in eager anticipation to see what God is going to do through them. Full Circle Moment. While at Hampton I attended First Baptist Church of Hampton and Rev. Dr. Richard Wills was my pastor. Close to 10 years later, Pastor Wills is now the pastor of the Historic Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta and I had the privilege of preaching there this morning. I am very appreciative to him and the people of Friendship for receiving me this morning. #MarchGladness Day 9: I'm glad that God led me to the Candler School of Theology at Emory University after graduating from Hampton. Fairfield raised me, Hampton made me, and Candler shaped me. As a young minister my theological education consisted of my own personal experience and years worth of Sunday School. So coming to Candler was a new world for me. Candler showed me the height, depth and breadth of faith and our study of it. Candler helped me see that there was a history and a context to what I believed in regards to Christianity and opened me to a world that shook my foundations for the better. Candler taught me how to think critically of my faith and caused me to go deeper. I'm a better pastor, preacher, teacher, minister and person because of Candler. Candler isn't a perfect place but it was perfect for me. I met friends and colleagues with whom I will continue to traverse the landscape of ministry. I have professors who continue to push me to be great even after completing the program some 5+ years ago. #MarchGladness Day 8: Fairfield, Alabama raised me and Hampton University made me. I'm glad that I chose Hampton as the place to attend college. Quite possibly one of the best decisions of my life. Hampton showed me the multiplicity of black life and how diverse we are as a people. Hampton helped me gained greater confidence in myself and pushed me to rise to the "standard to of excellence." I was able to make lifelong friends whom I can't imagine life without out. I love my HIU deeply. Word to the greatest class to matriculate through our hallowed halls, Quintessence 6. #MarchGladness Day 7: I'm glad and proud to call Fairfield, Alabama my home. This is the place that raised me. This is the place that informs me. This is the place where I learned about family, friendship, fun, folly, faith and fortitude. Special people come from Fairfield. Fairfield continues to produce doctors, lawyers, teachers, principals, educators, engineers, politicians and civic leaders, ministers, business executives, athletes, fathers, mothers, children and I'm glad to be in the number. #MarchGladness Day 6: I'm glad almost 12 years ago God called me to this thing we call "ministry." As an 18 year old kid who just completed his freshman year at Hampton, I didn't know that my life would lead me down a path where God would entrust me with the care of his people.
