Look, I hate angst for my wives but I cannot wait for Ann Walker to go off on Anne Lister. It's not even about cheating or Mariana at this point, it's about being sincere to your spouse which Anne just hasn't been in season 2. Ann asked (not once) about Anne's past and Lister lied. Ann asked about Mariana and what happened at Lawton Hall, Anne again lied and avoided the question
Now, I know why Anne keeps avoiding those subjects, she's afraid she is going to lose her wife, she doesn't care what others think of her anymore but she cares what Ann thinks and respects her opinion. What she doesn't understand is that this behavior is going to cause the exact opposite of that she wanted. By keeping things from Ann is truly going to look like she's with her only for Ann's money and I honestly don't even blame Ann's family for thinking that.
I think Anne wanted to get married for so long but she didn't even know what marriage entails. Ann cannot be her wife only behind closed doors, she needs to share every part of herself with her. With that visit to Mariana she emotionally closed off again, but she needs to remember that marriage is about more than love and affection and that she's being insincere with the only woman who was brave enough to marry her and move in with her. Ann shared all of herself with Anne, now Anne needs to trust her, trust that Ann is not going to leave her because of her past.
So yeah, I say go off Ann.

Sophie and Suranne talking about their friendship š„°šš© Just know they had some good fun on set
Sophie, in Season 1, Ann Walker was so fearful of what her family thought of her and she was so eager to please. Her self-acceptance and her steadfast decision to be with Anne and make that full commitment is pretty remarkable. How do you think Ann would respond to the statement that sheās incredibly brave and pretty radical?
SOPHIE RUNDLE: Oh, I love that you use the word āradicalā for her because she doesnāt get words like that used for her and youāre so right. I think sheād be horrified that people know what was actually going on, but Iād like to think that maybe on some level sheād be proud that people saw her, acknowledged her, and supported her. I think thatās who she was deep down inside of her, this brave person, just a victim of the life she led up to that point.
I hope she would be proud that weāve dug her out of history and weāve celebrated her now. This was a story of two women who married each other and yet we still have a tendency to focus on Anne Lister. Thereās this amazing plaque of where they got married, but it still focuses on Anne Lister and still sidelines Ann Walker as āthe wife.ā There were two women in this marriage and she was brave enough to commit herself to a woman at a time when it was unheard of. So yeah, the little strain of steel and bravery inside of her is there; I hope she would be pleased that we see it and celebrate it.
DECIDER: Sophie, the first few episodes of Season 2 really let us dive deep into Ann Walkerās mental health issues, or at least other peopleās perception of those issues. Iād love to know your perspective of what she was going through. How much of that struggle was legitimate and how much was a way for people to belittle or control her?
SOPHIE RUNDLE: You know, itās hard because we have the language and cultural understanding now of mental health. They didnāt have that then, so itās hard to retrospectively apply that to what she was going through then. I did try to figure out what kind of thing she was going through, what I can understand in contemporary language, and put that into her. Like you say, how much of that is something sheās dealing with, and how much was her family trying to gaslight her?
Itās a very toxic merging of both of those factors, I think. I think that sheās someone that wouldnāt be as ill as she was then if she lived now. I think she just needed help and thatās certainly what happens in Season 1 and throughout her life. Anne Lister offers her a lifeline. She just needs someone to listen to her. Sheās in there and she just needs help getting out. I just tried to disentangle what was happening to her, what she was reacting to, why she just needed someone to share the load. Thatās the heartbreaking thing. Anne Lister helped her with that. If sheād lived now, she would have been a much freer person.
The Diplomat follows Laura Simmonds and her Barcelona Consul colleague and friend Alba Ortiz as they fight to protect British nationals who find themselves in trouble in the Catalan city. Mixing the roles of lawyer, counsellor and cop, Laura and Albaās diplomatic skills are stretched to the limit by the stream of cases that walk through the Consulās doors.
The series opens on the unexplained death of a young British barman working around Barcelonaās notorious marina. While Laura supports the boyās angry father, neither the Spanish police nor the foreign office are keen to pursue a murder enquiry. As Laura and Alba uncover the events surrounding the barmanās death, they discover links not only to organised crime, but also to the British security services. Lauraās quest for justice places her in real jeopardy, as she threatens to expose secrets that the British and Spanish will go to any lengths to keep hidden.
