Moving from a niche fandom with 3 pieces of fanart and 1 fanfic(unfinished) to a very popular active fandom is such a freeing experience tbh

I despise it with my entire being when a story is magical realism and/or involves someone(mainly the mc) experiencing hallucinations/getting high so now people say that nothing magical or supernatural happened in the story because it was all just made up.

Also this when a magical/supernatural element clearly represents something so people say that it doesn’t actually exist in the story

Let me have my magic, folks. Pretty please.

#magical realism #I don’t know what else to tag #this is more of a diary then anything else #this is specifically about #the gray house #by Mariam Petrosyan #also because in a fanfic about iron lung I saw the author write in the tags #Simon did not hallucinate the events of iron lung because I hate that trope #like me too yes you’re so right #but this is mostly about the gray house #like people think that because the kids in the house are disabled and drink that means that the underside isn’t real #and none of the magical stuff is real #how do explain the ending then #how do you explain Alexander’s existence then #the gray house is critiquing people like that how can you read a book like the gray house and not realise that #but this is also about any media I’ve ever consumed that I can’t remember rn where something unrealistic happened and #people’s urge to understand things made them dismiss the magical elements of the story #let me be confused #bring back media that lets you be confused and figure things out by yourself #I want another experience like the gray house where I just don’t understand anything and have to figure the world out myself #or media where there is a lot of symbolism in the events but they still happened in the actual story #and that’s understood by the fandom #and media where characters hallucinate and that doesn’t mean that nothing happened #do you understand how much I love it when someone gets a weird dream and then when they wake up they have something from that dream which #proves that it wasn’t just a dream #a story where the magical elements do not need to be understood and are just accepted #snail on the slope #yes I love snail on the slope #it’s so much like the gray house in it’s atmosphere #I’m reading it rn I don’t understand shit I love it so much

People who think Simon is religious did not pay attention during Iron Lung.

Yes he grew up around religious propaganda in what was most likely a cult, but he is not religious.

I get head cannons exist but too much Iron Lung and BloodyMary content is so inaccurate and strays from Iron Lung on many topics, religion aside, and it’s annoying.

THIS. I’ve seen a bunch of people say that it was ‘way too long’ but I don’t think it was. It had done a great job at making Simon(and Ava I guess?) very human. At the end of the movie I KNEW nothing good was gonna happen but I was hoping with my entire being that something would change. Amazing. 10/10
