“Ben: Tiny Vessels is probably the most vicious song that I’ve ever written, in fact I think I can safely say it is the most vicious song I’ve ever written. Nick: All of us in different ways were like ‘Ben, do you want this song to be on the record? You realize this could make you sound like the biggest asshole of all time you know. I mean, listen to these lyrics, they’re not nice at all.”

“‘Such Great Heights’ is a very simple love song for a lady that I felt strongly about at that time. And it was one of those songs that was written very quickly, I think. I mean, I wouldn’t say that all the best songs are written quickly. But a lot - there’s a reason that so many of the best, or most popular songs, are written very quickly. It’s because in like a brief moment, it seems that you’re just channeling the song from somewhere else. I mean, I wrote it very quickly. It was one of those songs that just came out and it was done. And you know, I think it was more of it, just kind of like a way to impress this young lady with my feelings towards her. And it’s always funny how, you know, some of those songs that are like, you know, written for people that kind of make an impact on you, but certainly kind of drift in and out of your life relatively quickly. Those are the ones that tend to live on.”
— Ben Gibbard, Everything Will Change (2014)
