Reblogging because of the very important info at the end of the article - if you experience symptoms of a stroke, seek help IMMEDIATELY because even large strokes are treatable, but time is of the essence.

I just grabbed this from Google because the article didn't have any easy info on stroke identification. Remember the basics:

F- face, is it under control?

A - arms, can you raise them both at the same time?

S - speech, can you talk or are you slurring?

T - time is of the essence, go to a hospital IMMEDIATELY

This is scary stuff. Stay informed lovelies.

We are seeing this phenomenon with CoVID 19 patients: elevated DDimer - a test that shows thrombosis. (However not all elevated DDimers are means clots). CoVID is causing a form of Pro-thrombus disseminated intravascular coagulopathy.

There are other biomarkers that are elevated or decreased that we are seeing in patients with CoVID even if that have little or no symptoms. At my hospital we have a lab set that gets drawn. CBC (your WBC actually decrease during CoVID 19), CRP, DDimer, Albumin....

We are finding that this doesn’t happen in all cases but these are biomarkers that help focus care.

Right now, this very moment, I should be in a theatre sitting next to @slayediest watching Company or Flying Over Sunset or Mean Girls (or who am I kidding probably American Buffalo even though I already had tickets for tomorrow night), and heading for Marie’s Crisis right after. But instead I’m home with a belly full of fried catfish and hushpuppies listening to Lizzo singing “A Change Is Gonna Come” from her home because that’s where we all are.

Right now, I should be on vacation - writing things down and doing nothing at all.  Instead, I have to go into work from now until whenever hell this blows over.  I have a months worth of vacation time I don’t get to use.

My name is Heather.

I’m a nurse.

This is my CoVID unit.

I’m stress. I’m worried.

At my hospital, we moved a whole ICU in with another to make a speciality CoVID ICU. We were lucky that we are in a rebuilding of our hospital so we had an open floor that can house 1 floor of CoVID patients. We combined my step down unit into to the other to make way for this CoVID unit*. We moved 2 cardiology floors in with thoracic and vascular to make way for two more CoVID floors. Now they are moving the last two cardiology floors to what was neurology because the hospital is otherwise low census. We will have one WHOLE building on south campus that houses CoVID patients and majority of those nurse of cardiology and cardiothroacic nurses.

It’s nerve racking because of limit and reuse of PPE.

I’m scared that my friends, my coworkers, my staff, my parents, my family, my colleagues aren’t going to make it out alive.

At my hospital, We are still roughly 6 weeks from the peak so they say.

Things keep changing every day, every hour it seems like at the hospital.

Just know that you have the power to help slow this down and limit exposure. Stay home. Avoid people. Social distance.

THIS. Especially with my brother being a doctor, and serving as the medical director of a rehab/nursing facility, and likely to get called into the hospital eventually (even though he doesn’t generally work in the hospital). He is definitely afraid of this.
