Mick Rory/Heat Wave New Earth Reading Guide
I haven't seen any reading lists floating around for Mick, so I decided to make one myself! I stuck to New Earth, since it's the characterization I prefer for the Rogues. Bolded is a must-read. *Asterisks are just fun issues, not especially character heavy*. Italicized is either not recommended but included due to plot importance, or recommended with caveats. -Flash (1959) #140 (first appearance)
-Flash (1959) #155
-Flash (1959) #166
-Flash (1959) #193
-Flash (1959) #226
-Flash (1959) #242-244 (the death of The Top has long reaching effects for Mick)
-Flash (1959) #266-267 (flashback with Mick’s backstory/introduction of cryophobia/Mick seeing Flash’s face/MICK’S EVIL THERAPIST)
-Flash (1959) #312-317 (Mick’s first reformation arc)
-*Blue Devil #30*
-*Flash (1987) #19 (not a very Mick heavy issue, but this will always make every Rogue rec list of mine, it’s too fun of an issue to skip)*
-*Justice League Quarterly #2*
-Underworld Unleashed #1-3 (the Rogues are only in the first issue, but this arc has long lasting ramifications for them)
-Flash (1987) #123-129 (Rogue’s resurrection) -*Green Lantern (1990) #96, Green Arrow (1988) #130, Flash (1997) #135 (3 Of-A-Kind arc)*
-Rogues (Villains) (1998) (Important for Mick, but HEAVY warning for racist depictions of Asians. Ultimately skippable, you can gather what happens in this issue from context in later issues)
-Superboy (1994) #65, #75-81, #87-90 (Mick’s Cadmus arc)
-Flash (1987) #190
-Flash (1987) #210-225 (so, I personally hate this retcon Johns set up irt The Top and brainwashing the other Rogues. But Rogue War is a pretty important arc, particularly for Mick, so it’s on here anyway)
-*Countdown #51, #50, #46*
-Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #10-13, All Flash (2007) (I don’t especially recommend this arc, but it’s an important moment in the Rogues’ history so it’s on here)
-Salvation Run #1-7
-Final Crisis: Rogue’s Revenge #1-3 (to be frank, I can’t stand this run. It’s ultraviolent and OOC for pretty much everyone. This is also the beginning of them pushing Mick as strictly a pyromaniac vs being motivated by cryophobia, which leads to a direct flattening of his character from here on out. There are some individual scenes that make it at least worth skimming though, most notably Mick’s showdown with Burn and the murder of Lawrence Snart)
-Flash (2010) #1-7
