Another year, another Happy Valentines!

Fun fact, this was my final pitch idea for the @ishimondozine ! I'm not as confident with illustration so I'm glad my comic pitch was chosen instead;

It does make a cute little Valentine though!

for the curious - I've popped the dog breeds under the cut -> plus the goofy original pitch sketch cos it still makes me laugh

There's not super deep thought into these; mostly whatever first came to mind, either aesthetically or personality wise- From Left to Right -> Sakura - Newfoundland : Big gentle giant! Hifumi - Bulldog : similar shapes, big barrel chest with verrry short legs Hina - Labrador : Sweet and energetic! Mukuro - Alsatian : association as working military dogs Chihiro - Yorkshire Terrier : Very puppy-like, diminutive size Toko - Chinese Crested : frequently winners of 'the world's ugliest dog' contest, to match her severe inferiority complex Makoto - Jack Russell : energetic, affectionate and loyal Kyoko - Bloodhound : association with detectives as excellent trackers Byakuya - Afghan Hound : the image of the classic snooty show dog Sayaka - Papillon : Cute toy breed and excellent performance dogs Leon - Greyhound : well known as top sports dogs Hiro - Komondor/Puli : for the corded coat *I got confused so I ended up with a Puli the size of a Komondor or a Komondor with the colouring of a Puli 😔 Celeste - King Charles Spaniel : for the allusion to aristocracy, and the curls Junko - Rough Collie : most famously 'Lassie' the dog who helped folk - I honestly just thought it'd be funny

Have you heard what they say?

If you swap the name plates in the western corridor of the first year dorms you've broken a rule. Not one of the ones you'd find in your e-handbook. One of Hope's Peak's unwritten rules, and when you break them you get punished.

You won't notice straight away, but most people say it starts with a song. The most beautiful sound, it might even remind you of birdsong, but it's quiet. Right on the edge of your hearing. It's only when you enter your own dorm that you realise how strange that is. After all, all the rooms are soundproof.

They say she'll be waiting for you. No two stories can agree exactly where she'll be, although most say she waits behind a door. The handle is jammed; That's the sign. If you give up there you'll be spared the ghastly sight of her.

Long dark hair tangles in her limbs, casting a long shadow over her face obscuring the glint of her eyes and the too bright pink on her lips. She's far too pale, too limp, almost pitiable. Her arm doesn't sit right the way it's cradled across her body. And the handle of a knife sticks out of her belly.

You'd better run then, lock the door and stay beneath your bed, or they say she'll pull that knife out and use it on you the way it was used on her.

She's always gone by the morning, but it's said she leaves a message behind for you. It's indecipherable, but most say it feels like an apology.

History repeats itself. Once is a happenstance, but Twice is a pattern... Maybe there was a drop of truth all those years ago in the rumours spread by gossip rags and back ally blogs. Tales of students locked behind Stanford prison bars, MK ultra rebuilt in the basement.

let me just state upfront: I am excited to see what they do with Danganronpa 2x2! I am a staunch advocate of new instalments even if they wind up not being up my alley! New media means new fans, new engagement as well as potential future new material which I do actually like!

THAT BEING SAID;

Honestly?

I know Trigger Happy Havoc isn't the most popular in the series, but... jumping straight to remaking Super Danganronpa 2?

V3 I'd get, but SDR2 is a direct sequel of THH; you kinda need to know how that game ends to get any of the payoff.

and unless they're planning on changing up all the motives for the 'different killer/victim AU' mode- (which to be fair that might be the case! That'd be super cool! but like.. I wanna temper my expectations in the light of Dangan's track record)

the original motives have some character specific plot-beats I don't know how they'll reckon with; -For trial 2, who other than Fuyuhiko, Peko, and Mahiru would care about Twilight Syndrome Murder Case motive? -No one else but Nagito could win the full reward from the Final Dead Room. -Trail 5 can't happen if Nagito or Chiaki don't make it -and Hajime himself is integral to the conclusion of trial 6

But THH, not only is it GASPING for a graphical upgrade, there's no need to change any motives or locations for a total killer/victim rewrite to still work. Barring Junko herself, all that's needed is a 'traitor' for trail 5 and a 'body' for trail 6- and those could be anyone. You would get a genuinely new experience shuffling around who succumbs to Monokuma's temptations and who pays for it

Hell, a THH AU mode could lead directly into SDR2's AU mode!

but I suppose THH will continue to be relegated to collecting mothballs at the bottom of Kodaka's underwear drawer.

regardless, I am excited for some new Dangan in the year of our lord 2026, no matter the form

This was my other idea for @ishimondozine Inspired by the scrapped alternate ending 'Another End' where instead of the killing game, the students have to give up their 'hopes' in order to escape. Although the ending was never used, we still have the scripting for it- with each student's thoughts about giving up their talent.

Taka: "My dream was to become the Prime Minister and correct the morals of this country, but… It’s fine! I'll aim to be a farmer from now on! I'll correct the country's morals from an agricultural viewpoint!"

Mondo: "So the crazy times are over…I'm retirin'… Guess I'll become a carpenter or somethin'… Hey, big bro…In a bit… That's okay, right?"

it has a bit of a melancholic feel, but there's no denying that spark of hope.
