Mauritius ornate day gecko (Phelsuma ornata)
Mauritius ornate day gecko is a diurnal species of geckos. It occurs on the island Mauritius and some surrounding islands and typically inhabits different trees and bushes. The Mauritius ornate day gecko feeds on insects and nectar. This Gecko is one of the smallest day geckos. It can reach a total length of about 12 cm. The body colour is quite variable. It can be bluish green, green with a blue area on the front back, or completely blue.

This time-lapse is one of the most compelling—and unsettling—visualizations of evolution we’ve ever seen. The overhead footage depicts a strain of the gut bacterium E. coli evolving to be 1,000 times more resistant to an antibiotic in a matter of 11 days, starkly visualizing the speed with which diseases can adapt to the drugs we throw their way.
The outermost reaches of the plate received no antibiotic whatsoever, but by the time they got to the center of the plate, scientists had laced the agar with antibiotics at 1000 times the concentration needed to kill their starting strain of E. coli.Â
The experiment showed in a simple and elegant way that bacteria that are normally killed by an antibiotic can rapidly become able to survive extremely high concentrations.Â
