Imagine you are a parent in a candy shop with your young child, and your child desperately wants you to get them a box of chocolate-coated marzipan confections they see in the display case. You know, as an adult, that this is a bad idea. Your child has no idea what marzipan is or how it tastes: they can only see the surface of the candy and are mesmerized by its delightful appearance. You tell them no, you explain that they won't enjoy it, and you suggest a candy you know they would like better. Your child refuses, and they threaten a tantrum if their demands are not met.
This is female preference expressed in politics, condensed to its bare essentials. The left-wing woman decries the unfairness of the parent's will, screaming in protest that the political establishment is denying them access to objectively deleterious political favors like abortion, franchise, and sexual liberty. The moment the marzipan is finally purchased and consumed, the right-wing woman emerges with righteous indignation, screaming in protest that the political establishment allowed the disasters that followed as a natural consequence of those political favors. How can there be any complicity on their part? You failed as a parent the moment you decided to give your child what they asked for. Whether you refused to allow them access to the marzipan or finally acquiesced and gave it to them, you are the only one at fault. The only winning move is to remove your child from the candy shop entirely and deny them access to any confections at all.
The marzipan, for its part, remains a phantasmal mystery to the child, who sees it still only for its exquisite chocolate shell, despite the disgust and horror they experienced when biting into it. They learn nothing and reach into the box for another.
