It was a huge honor to photograph Foster Huntington & his Cinder Cone Home for this weekends Sunday New York Times (Story Here). Foster left the hustle of NYC to live in my own home of the Pacific Northwest. His treehouse was an incredible location and I only wish I could have spent even more time there just hanging out, skating, or enjoying the wood fired hot tubs. Super huge thanks to Eve Lyons for the dream assignment and to Lauren Colton for assisting.

To prepare, we made a series of upgrades, including a solar panel, an electrical inverter (to convert from 12V power to 120V), new curtains, new cushion upholstery, a new hardwood maple floor and new birch cabinet doors. It’s now our tiny home.

A Harvard researcher invented these $139,000 stackable homes that can be built in under three weeks

Based in Austin, Texas, Kasita offers housing units that can sit by themselves or stack to form apartments. The pre-fabricated homes can be assembled off-site and delivered in two to three weeks.

The startup is now selling its first units, which measure 352 square feet and cost $139,000, across the US. There is currently a waitlist for preorders — $1,000 holds a spot.

Down boooties! The best warm socks on earth. It gets cold, your feet normally get cold first. Down sleeping bags or comforters are the best right? So why not have down sleeping bags for your feet?

Spray bottle filled with soapy water (Dr Bronner’s) for cleaning dishes quickly, efficiently and friendly. A clean van makes a happy van.

My photo album. I realized last year I didn’t have a lot of photos from my 8 years in the Navy. This struck me hard. So much happened in that time and why did I not save or document it better? Now as I travel I am constantly adding photos to this album. The people and places forever captured in an album. Something so simple yet so meaningful.

How @dharmaonwheels turned their tiny house into a home:

Our stock tank/tub. I can’t imagine life without it! 2 words: toddler and dogs. Both love to play in dirt!

Wood stove - It would have been impossible to live full time in the bus in Alberta without a wood stove! It kept us toasty all through winter!

Propane stove for cooking. While we made the Coleman burners work for a while I really enjoy being able to bake in our stove now. Bring on the muffins! :)
