Midas settled back in the crowded cafe, reading his newspaper as he sipped on his cup of black coffee. This was his daily ritual, after all. After the mess the other teams called a party, he needed some relaxation. And what better way to relax on a day off than with a hot drink? He couldn’t think of anything else better.
Sensing somebody standing nearby, he looked up. “Can I help you?”
This shop looked really busy… Narrowing his eyes as he nearly passed it up, hr noticed a familiar head of blonde hair and stopped, turning on his heels to look through the window for a second.
…Is that Midas?
Almost immediately stepping into the cafe, he moved to cover the strange eye on his forehead with his bangs before he approached his boss, raising his eyebrows and advancing forward once Midas called out to him.
“Ah, hello.” He spoke, standing near the chair on the other side of the table Midas sat at “Figured I couldn’t pass by without at least a greeting.”
“Ah, Markerius!” Midas smiled warmly. He put his paper down, “Please, have a seat.“
Suddenly, the events of the party flashed through his mind. Midas cleared his through, looking away, “I apologize for my behavior at the party,” he said as stoically as he could, “It was…unprofessional of me to blow up like that.” He looked back at Markerius, smiling slightly, “I hope that the food was to your liking, at least.”
He moved to sit down, pushing his cape out behind him so he didn’t sit on it. Folding his hands on the table, he tilted his head to the side, giving a quiet smile “Oh, it’s fine. Understandable, really, I probably would’ve acted the same were I in your situation.”
“It was, though.” He started, straightening his posture as he spoke “I’m normally not too partial to sweeter foods, but the strawberries were a nice touch.”
Midas sighed, “Thank you, I’m sure it didn’t leave the best impression for the other teams. But, what’s in the past is in the past, right?”
He took a sip from his drink, “The strawberries were my personal touch, glad you appreciated them. Hand-dipped them myself, actually.” He paused for a moment, staring at Markerius’s forehead, “...hey, did you get a haircut or something? You look...different.”
