“You don’t need to, you know. Kind of already convinced me to go out with you, I think you’re good.” Dick says with a smile, tucking his head in under Lucas’ cheek again. He loves - this, loves this sense of comfort and safety, loves having someone he can just.. hide with, without any worry of needing to live up to some crazy expectation. “Well, I’m gonna try at least. We have to make sure you keep up with kids these days.”

“I know I don’t know what I did for that, but I’m thankful you see something in me.” Lucas admits proudly as he leans against Dick again. It was good to just relax like this for once, and not have to worry about anything. “Thank you, I’m sure she’ll appreciate it. I don’t know what I’m going to do when she starts dating.”

“Yeah something like that, assuming my DNA wasn’t messed with to avoid being tracked like that.” Lucas knows his parents would be very old, and he doesn’t know if that would just bring up old wounds. “It would just be digging up bad memories, rebuilding burnt bridges. Ha! I hope there’s nothing new to worry about, but you never know I suppose. Alien robots?”

“Trying to flatter me, Trent? You should know by now it takes more than that.” He says with a small grin, leaning up a little to press a kiss to Lucas’ cheek. He’s gotten used to the somewhat different way Lucas flirts. Once you get used to it, it’s actually quite sweet, the way Lucas sees him, the way the man treats him. “I’m sure you do okay. I can teach you a few things if you want.”

“Perhaps a little.” Lucas just smirks, only growing wider at the kiss pressed to his cheek. He was a strange man, always aware of that, but never minded what people thought. “You’re going to teach me how to understand teenage lingo?” He teases with a laugh, but it was sweet. “I’d love that.”

“You know, if I didn’t know any better I’d almost say you had a little thing for me all the way back then. Watching every video of me fighting? C’mon.” Dick says with a soft chuckle, though he really is touched by Lucas’ words. The two of them have come a long way really, their relationship has changed so much but.. Dick can’t help but feel as though he’s more comfortable now than he’s been in a long time. “Did you just say ‘hip’? I swear sometimes you sound older than me.”

“Hey now — I needed to know all about how you move and think. It worked, but you impressed me by being way better in person. Video doesn’t so you justice, Grayson.” Lucas says softly which was his crazy way of flirting, but truthfully he thought that he was great. They came a long way, and he was comfortable here. “I don’t know what do the kids say these days? I can’t keep up with Jenny.”

“You’ve done a pretty good job getting to know me, huh?” Dick says with a soft chuckle, curling closer and tucking his head under Lucas’ chin. He’s fine, of course - there’s nothing physically wrong with him, he’s healthy and he’s safe he’s just tired. Right now, being with Lucas - somewhere he feels safe - is just about all he wants. Just for a little while. “Might check on the kids later on.” Dick says softly, taking a slow, deep breath. “Aside from that, though - kinda just wanna stay here.” 

“Remember when I watched every possibly video available of you fighting? I still think you’re remarkable — even now that I’ve gotten to know you up close and personal” Lucas admits as he leans in closer to his boyfriend as he speaks, resting his head over the other’s. “We can do that — FaceTime them since that’s hip now.”

This wasn’t anything new to him — always used to putting in the hard work.  Lucas could turn off part of his brain that focused on pain, but he doesn’t think he’ll need to. “This isn’t so bad.” He even managed to convince his daughter to help too. “We’re making progress don’t you think?” [ @nvthawkguy ]

“Like you could stop me.” Dick says with a weak chuckle, not that it matters. He wants nothing more than to stay with Lucas right now, to hide out in bed and just.. take some time for himself for once. If there’s one thing Dick’s learned over the years, it’s that pushing himself when he’s worn out like this helps no one. “Well now we’re just going to spend the entire day at home. I hope you know that. There’s no way I’m letting you out of this place now.” He looks up at Lucas, raising an eyebrow. “You sure you’re okay with that?”

“I could try, but I know you always get your way when you put your mind to something.” Lucas admits with a laugh, but doesn’t mind what they do even if it was staying in bed — they both deserved it. “I’m okay with that. You have me all day, we can stay right here if you want too.” He promises as he wraps an arm around Dick, pulling him closer against him.

some distant, buried part of winnie would feel awful about this later. her horrendous attitude was wildly out of character but this anger had come over her and she couldn’t fight it off at all. she’d never felt like this in her life and so her innocence made her unsure of herself, which only made her much more frustrated. “i don’t know,” she admitted. “i’ve never been so goddamn angry in my life so i haven’t got any methods to calm down and i’m going to explode.”

Lucas may be feeling out of character — too joyous than normal, but he hasn’t forgotten what it feels like to be angry. He just nods his head, listening to the girl talk. “I have spent a lot of my life being angry and channeling that into anything that I could. It doesn’t always help, but I always thought deep breathing was a load of shit.” He says with a smile — still a soft tone to his voice.

the redhead didn’t know what there was to be so happy about. she could feel her pulse throbbing and her skin heat as he smiled at her – on any other day, she would be more than happy to return his smile with joy, but right now his smile made her absolutely boil. with a heavy huff as she turned to face him, winnie squinted at him. “i didn’t realise there was much to smile about – i don’t imagine i particularly look okay, despite your concern.”

If it were any other day, Lucas might have had a very different reaction. He was usually full of a a very different emotion, but yet he never took anger out on children. Hers took him off guard though, the expression on his face starts to fade a little. “Well I do apologize for giving you the wrong impression — trying to be nice. Is there anything I can do for you?” Midnighter’s expression still soft though.

Theora turned around, now resting her arms on the bar. “I;m guessing my scene is somewhere a lot quieter with less twenty-somethings. My idea of a good night tends to be cheap wine and crime shows.” 

“You know what? Crime shows are better than being in a crowd.” Lucas says as he wipes down part of the counter. He tosses the rag down, and leans over the counter.

“I called in for the day.” Dick says quietly, curling in closer against Lucas’ side and pulling the covers up over them both. After a day of… that, whatever the hell that was, Dick doesn’t want to do anything. He feels exhausted, absolutely worn out from whatever that fog had done to him, and while he knows he can’t just avoid this forever.. he can take a few extra hours to recover in bed with his boyfriend, right? “I - kinda hoped you wouldn’t mind staying here with me?” [ @midnghtr ]

“I wouldn’t have let you go to work otherwise.” Lucas teases, although truthfully he knows that he would never force Dick to do anything, but after the day they had he doesn’t think going to work is a wise choice. “I’m not going in either, I can’t deal with bartending tonight.” He says while rubbing his eyes. “I’ll stay the night sure — I’m not going anywhere. Jenny is with Apollo so I’m all yours.”

winifred banner-ross had never been quite so angry. in fact, the redhead had never been anything more than frustrated – but now, for a reason she couldn’t quite identify, she was furious. bubbling. her neck and face were blotchy with colour, her jaw was tight and her teeth were grinding ( a vague part of herself, something momentarily forgotten, wondered if this was what hulking out was like ), and she didn’t know how to handle herself. she’d removed herself as soon as possible from her group for fear of blowing up at them, but now, completely deserted, she hadn’t expected somebody to come up behind her.

“what–” she snapped, almost snarling, “could you possibly want?”

“I don’t want anything! I was just checking on you, making sure that you’re okay!” 

Lucas asked as he raises his hand up as if he was surrendering. He usually wasn’t this happy, an overwhelming sense of joy was almost strange for his computer to process. It was trying to keep up and figure out what happened, but for now he would have to deal with this. He flashes a smile to the other.

Dick can’t deny he’s relieved to know Lucas feels that way. He doesn’t want to make Lucas feel like he needs to change who he is or do anything differently. And for them to go on dates that only one of them enjoy defeats the purpose - but if Lucas is looking forward to this too, it’ll definitely be worth it. “Good. That’s - what it’s all about, you know? Both of us doing something we enjoy and having a good time together. At least - that’s what I want us to do.”

It has been a long time since Lucas has actually looked forward to going out on a date. In the past he has tried to see other people, but those experiences never lasted long. The reasons don’t matter, as he was here dating the man he has feelings for — and they were going to have a good time. Lucas wouldn’t want it to happen any other way. “It’s what I want too. The two of us to have a good time. It’s us — I think we will.” He says with a grin spread over his face. h

On the one hand, Dick wants to make sure Lucas knows he doesn’t have to try and be something he’s not, or live up to some non-existent expectation here. On the other hand - when Lucas pulls him in for another kiss that thought takes a backseat for a second while he lets himself just.. savour the moment. “You’re doing all the right things so far.” He murmurs softly as he breaks the kiss, combing his fingers gently through Lucas’ hair. “You know - this is real sweet, and I love the idea of going on a date with you but.. I wanna make sure we do things we both enjoy, you know?”

Lucas knows that he didn’t have to do this, and while he doesn’t do these grand gestures often, he thinks it’s important to do them still.  He also recognizes how much of a surprise it is. “Well that’s a relief.” He teases with a grin. “Trust me I’ll be enjoying myself. I get to eat good food, and talk to YOU. Where can I go wrong with something like that?” He also knows that punching robots isn’t very romantic anyway — and not a good date.

❝ i think we part there. i can’t imagine making peace with that. ❞ bobbi couldn’t deal with it. she’d have to know, or she’d die trying. she wouldn’t be able to just move on from that. she thinks that it’d be impossible to. she already deals so much with trying to have a sense of identity. ❝ i suppose science is less useful for our magical new world, but i still like it, anyway. ❞ 

“Everyone is different. Although with the technology available nowadays I could probably figure out who my relation is to — but it’s just a matter of thinking if that’s worth reopening those wounds, you know what I mean?” He shrugs his shoulders a bit. “Always something new that’s out of this world popping up, huh?”

“If you want free cookies, stop by either the dorm lobby or the front of the library. They’re chocolate chip. Unless you want like half a dozen now. I made way too many.” 

Lucas didn't necessarily need to eat, but he’ll bite this time. “Chocolate chip, huh? I’ll take one, sure.” His hand reaching over toward the plate to take one.
