A Note on Slytherins

Slytherins are not just focused on themselves. Slytherins are focused on doing what they can for themselves and the people they care about.

A Slytherin cares about those closest to them far more than he/she cares about people as a whole. This does not mean that a Slytherin can’t care about humanity as a whole (for example, a Slytherin can still be concerned for the impoverished in another country), but it does mean that the Slytherin will put his/her friends/family’s needs above the needs of those they do not know.

This means, for instance, that, while a Slytherin might run into a burning building to rescue a close companion, he/she would not allow that friend to run in to rescue a stranger, nor would they be too likely to do it themselves.

A Slytherin believes that the ones they care for deserve more protection from them than the rest of the world. A Slytherin is inherently not evil- they don’t necessarily believe that the rest of humanity should burn- but this self/close friend preservation could be why many Slytherins are perceived as evil.

If a Slytherin does not have friends or family to hold on to, they have only themselves to care for/about.
