Parrish’s face lit up immediately, uncertainty being replaced by happiness as he gently squeezed her tiny hand with his own. It was like the skies had cleared all of a sudden, even though their wet clothes would disprove the theory. Everything had changed and, for once, he was proud of how he had handled things in the aftermath.
“Can we go back inside now? Seeing as the begging and poetry is over with and all.”
The male laughed, relieved that he could do so with Maya after all this time. It hadn’t been longer than a few months that they had been apart from each other, dating other people in desperate attempts to forget, but even that had felt like eternity. He never let go of his girlfriend’s hand (he was pretty sure that was back on) as he guided her back inside. The essay could go to hell, for all Parrish cared, there were more important things going on right now.
"Yeah, I mean it."
There was nothing but pure intentions in her tone. Maya truly wanted to work things out with Parrish; wanted things to be better between the pair.l Though, they fought and hurt each other more than is usual Maya couldn't deny or ignore how happy she was when she was with him. And the knowing that Parrish, too, wanted them to find a place of happiness again made their struggles all the more worth it.
"I like the sound of that, better than standing out here getting drenched."
She laughed along with him and allowed him to lead her back through the doors of the home they once shared. After shutting the door behind her she released his hand, just for a moment, to remove her jacket before taking both of his hands in her own and smiling at him not caring where they went from here; only happy to know that they had somewhere to go.
