he tilts his head dutifully, delivering a proof of budding curiosity expressed through contraction of non-existent muscle cells of porcelain-like flesh.

ALL THINGS considered, "he" couldn't exactly say "offended" was the right word to describe how they were feeling. but it may have been as close as one would get.
