Born twenty-five years ago as Areum Yang, the girl who would go on to be known as Catherine led an unremarkable life. The daughter of two young parents, she grew up poor and without the greatest support system, mother and father both too stressed to truly be there for her as she needed.
As soon as she turned eighteen, Areum's parents put pressure on her to move out and lead her own life, to do her own thing... and so, disillusioned with their treatment, she ended up doing exactly that. Having left school with average grades and not believing herself to have any talents otherwise, she took a job as an escort, meeting and 'entertaining' many people over the course of her career to make ends meet.
It wasn't a pleasant career, and she knew it. One day she would be attending some fancy do with some older gentleman, the next she would have some person whose name she didn't even know taking her against the wall of an alley, the next she would be listening to someone cry about how nobody really loved them...
At twenty-two, she escaped from escorting with some bumps and bruises and emotional scars, a belief that no-one would really love her beyond her body, and a far more devil-may-care attitude about life in general. Having developed more self-respect than she'd had before, she left Areum Yang in the past with the other life decisions she regretted, and she took on a new name for herself: Catherine Valentine.
From then on, she's lived a very uneventful life; cashier at a convenience store by day, guitarist and singer of her band the Midnight Valentines by night.
And so it's been ever since...
...until one day, a mysterious message from an unknown sender puts her in contact with new friends and an organisation meant for doing good in the world.
It's all very new to her, but, well... the last part of her soul that hasn't given into cynicism does love the idea of making a positive change, of doing good for others.
Looks like she's going to have to learn how to throw a good party...
