    He had a point, it was his word against hers. No one would believe Katherine capable of sharing. Maybe it wasn’t so bad, maybe she could cut her act. Even if only a little. “–You had to go for the most expensive bottle.” She whispered. His distraction working, but only because she was letting it. Katherine released a bit of the pressure, slowly moving her hands up his chest, and cupping his neck lightly. Her gaze moving to his. “Mm, you’re lucky I don’t want you dead.– Not yet.” 

You’re lucky I don’t want you dead. Not yet. The words he’d heard so many times before, a threat he knew that she would never follow through on. For all her bark, with him, she had very little bite. There was a part of him that always wondered how far she would go with him, if she ever would follow through on threats like this. If the past was any indicator, she wouldn’t. “For as selfish as you claim to be, there’s a soft spot in your heart, Katherine. Even if you did want me dead -- which I doubt -- you wouldn’t do it.” He moved one hand to her face, his thumb running over the bottom lip. “Tell me, Katherine, what do you want right now?”

“Coffee sounds good,” she agreed, “I have a feeling we’re going to need it.”  She knew they were in for a long day at least if not going into the evening. There was a lot to grade, and while she was still quite taken with him, when it came to business she knew her first priority was helping him with what he needed, which at this time was grades. although she did enjoy seeing him so focused on somethings to where his face would get set in a very specific way, it was endearing really. 

It was also rather entertaining to see the difference between student’s answers and his reactions to them. Some of them were pretty stupid she wasn’t going to lie, but he did better than she would be able to in dealing with that type of people. it seemed he had the patience of a saint. 

She felt his eyes on her, resting there for what seemed to be a little to longer than necessary, and felt her stomach drop. she focused on ordering her drink before her her cheeks started to acknowledge the nervous girly feeling inside of her. 

Silas nodded in agreement. The looming feeling he got from the work he knew that was in store from them has stuck with him all day. He hoped the coffee would help but he knew once they got into it that the time would fly. He just hoped that the they were done before it got too late. As much as he enjoyed Mariah, he was not a fan of working late. 

He led her into the cafe and ordered his coffee, letting her order one and paying for it. Thankfully, it wasn’t too busy and the coffees were done quick. He kept glancing at her as they waited and wondered what she was thinking about. He may have asked but their order was called and he collected their coffees, handing her hers and leading her back out. 

A few minutes of walking and they were at his office. He set down his coffee and pulled some papers from his bag. He opened a drawer and pulled out some more, handing the stack to Mariah. “Take your time with these. Once you’re done with the stack, you’re welcome to leave if you’d like. I have office hours in about 2 hours so you’re welcome to stick around and help me with those as well if you’d like.” He sat down at his desk, logging into his computer so he could grade some things that were submitted online.

    A chuckle left him accompanied by the shake of his head, “Uh, thanks but…” Flushed cheeks already, still wasn’t entirely used to being flirted with, “I definitely don’t date any of my brother’s friends.”  

    For starters, him and his brother, Jaxon, never got along; always argued with each other over something and rarely broke out into physical fights. Lucian, himself, was never one to condone in violence of any kind but no one got under his skin like his oldest brother, Jaxon, did without fail. If his brother was like that on a daily basis, he couldn’t imagine what kind of people his friends would be like but in truth they hardly knew much about each other. If only the two brothers would just have a civil conversation for once they might understand each other.    

    “Plus, I highly doubt he’d be a fan of that either. There doesn’t seem to be much he does like.” He grumbled, tried to keep his usual optimistic and uplifting personality, still managed to take a turn when his brother was mentioned. However, anyone who knew Jaxon, would know how much he looks up to Lucian despite their arguments.

“Date? Who said anything about that? I’m merely asking you to accompany me on a night of fun. But if you’re so opposed to fun, no worries.” Silas looked over Lucian, a hint of lust and something else in his eye. He’d been friend with Jaxon for a while now and he’d found himself inexplicably drawn to Lucian. Sure, he was attractive, but it was something more than that. Something more.... magnetic. 

He knew the relationship between Jaxon and Lucian was less than good and that most of the reason for that was Jaxon himself. Honestly, that only seemed to draw Silas in more. Lucian held his own against Jaxon well. Jaxon was just... well, he really was a character. He had a very strong personality and one of the only reasons SIlas got along with him was because SIlas got along with most people. He was very personable. 

“Who cares what he’d like? Least of all you.” Silas moved a bit closer to him, but there was still enough distance that it wouldn’t look suspicious if someone walked in. “Come on, just a night of fun. Jaxon won’t even have to know.”

She hadn’t expected him to call it early today, he usually ran pretty close to full time, which she did appreciate. Didn’t matter either way for her, as this was her only class for the day. She looked up at him as he addressed her, a little surprised that he’d asked, but she nodded.

“I can go with you,” she told him placing her last book in her bag and slinging it over her shoulder, “this is the light day for me.” She followed behind him, catching the scent of his aftershave on the air. infatuation or not, she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with him during office hours. yes, he was extremely attractive, but she liked him as him as well, and enjoyed his relaxed or semi-relaxed aura he had during that time. 

She had just been thankful she had the common sense to give the man his privacy and discreet enough with her affection (or at least she thought she had been) that he had not removed her from the class. she had heard the stories of other girls chasing after him, and the consequneces that were handed to them for crossing over a line.

Silas finished packing his stuff, nodding as she spoke. He did enjoy their time together and his life was definitely a lot easier with her as his TA. He got behind this past weekend on grading and desperately needed her help getting everything done, preferably today but if they at least got most it taken care of, he’d be happy. He could stay up late tonight making sure the rest got finished.

They walked in silence for a bit. Silas was looking over his calendar, making sure he wasn’t missing any meetings or appointments he had scheduled. He had the nagging feeling that he was missing something, but he wasn’t sure what. He put his phone away and looked up, spotting the cafe near his office. “You wanna grab some coffee? I have a feeling it’s going to be a long night for. me,” he said, looking over at her. 

For just a moment, he allowed himself to enjoy her beauty. It just lasted a moment, though, as he knew better, and he shook himself out of it, waiting for her reply.

Was this the most riveting class in her schedule? No. it wasn’t that she was not interested in it, it was okay ish. Good enough to TA for after last semester, but that class was not the real reason she agreed to TA. It was mainly because she was enamored with him. Silas had caught her eye within the first class last semester, and he was the reason she did well in it last semester. Yes, Mariah knew it was absolutely dumb to have such a crush on a professor like this, not to mention completely unprofessional. She had never thought she was one of those girls, but Silas had changed her mind. She was never sure if he was just a kind and fun professor, or if there was something there. Was she letting her imagination run wild and see things, read into things that were just not true, or was she picking up that he was receptive to it and wanted her as much as she wanted him. 

 She checked her notes again before letting her eyes rest on him again, listening to the lecture and trying not to play out scenarios in her head. 

It wasn’t exactly uncommon for Silas to get student that were attracted to him. He knew he was good looking and he was close enough in age to his students that he that line was kind of a blur to many of them. Not to him, though. He always turned down students, especially when they were in his class. He liked his job and wasn’t going to give anyone a reason to fire him. He tried to be gentle about it, letting them know how flattered he was but that was a line he would never cross. In general, they understood. Some didn’t take it well, but that was to be expected. They often ended up dropping his class or he would remove them. Only in one case did a student ever go so far as to start stalking him, but that’s a story for another time. 

Because right was about Mariah. She’d taken a few of his classes and she always did well. He always had the idea that she took many of his classes because she was attracted to him, but she never made any moves towards him. He was coming to realize she would be one of those who would take any class of his she could to see him but never cross that line -- never even get close to it. He appreciated and respected that. 

He finished his lecture early today, which wasn’t exactly normal for him but he had expected more questions on today’s topic. When he didn’t get any, he let the students go, moving to gather his own things so he could head back to his office. “Are you coming to the office with me or do you have other things to do?” He looked at Mariah as he packed up his stuff.

Their relationship had never been perfect. Hell, there was more than enough time that their relationship hadn’t been good. But the motivating factor for Stefan has always been their love for each other. They may fight, they may hurt each other, they may go decades without speaking, but they’d always found their way back to each other. In the end, it was always them.

Needless to say, the words shot straight to his core, leaving him cold and numb. A million things ran through his mind and it was all he could do not to puke. Even with his humanity on, he wanted nothing more than to go tear someone limb from limb. 

“You’re lying.” He had to be. He couldn’t mean it, not after all this time. “You’re trying to hurt me. Great. You won, as always. It hurts to hear those words come from you. But I know, Klaus. You don’t mean it.”
