Art Fight 2023 - miemietin

Art Fight 2023 is upon us, and once again I ran out of time for posting new character refs. How typical of me. Though fear not, Siger, Mikko and Railoryömijä will be added once the site lets me do it. 2023 is my third year fighting, and this time around I'll be doing mass attacks that take place in the Monkvalley. Surprise gift for my friend @pigsocks This is my interpretation of Uruki-sensei, her Naruto OC.

There was very little I knew about him, other than that he has three black ribbons and shares traits with Mingyu and Rebellion, two of Pigsocks’ ocs.

So I borrowed few traits from Mingyu, colors and shapes from Rebellion and added something new, creating this handsome fellow.

She doesn't actally know how to go SSJ3 or 4 but I wanted to add them too since they're so cool but so god. damn. dumb.

Part 5

What's in the bag!? Aka the contents of Routa's bag as well as some items he carries on his person. Most are self-explanatory but a quick note on few items. The grey-green box isn't a lunch box but a repair / maintenance kit for his prosthesis. The black-pink spray is a toned down version of pepper spray which leaves a pink mark on the attacker's face. The old letter is a love letter from Dawn.

Part 4 Causing good-hearted mischief in Routa's life is Dawn Aelius. He is enthusiastic, loving and bit too naive for his own good. His and Routa’s relationship is a long one with both ups and downs, but as of late, they are happily married.

I do not rejoice quite yet but I think that after a few agonising years… I have found Bleak. I lost him when I cluttered his helmet design and made him appear more like Waterblade. But maybe I’m on a right path now.

Part 3 Routa's old ID-card from his workplace. Nowadays Routa cannot do surgery since he is in a recovery and learning to use his prosthetic hand, but he still works in the trauma centre as a consultant.

Part 2 Routa was in a traumatic event where he lost four of his fingers and a part of his left palm. To regain the function of his dominant hand he underwent an experimental procedure where the destroyed tissues were replaced by a robotic prosthesis. The surgery and trauma left him with phantom and neural pain and it is yet unclear whether he’ll make a full recovery.

During this year’s OC-tober, I’ll focus on my original character Routa Kolkko, his life and his friends. There won’t be that many drawings, but I’ll try to write at least a small piece of info every day.

Here we have Routa in his Autumn attire. Makes me wonder how many layers he’ll be wearing during winter.

(Not so) Fun fact: My old laptop blew up at the end of 2016. I bought a new one, but it wasn’t compatible with my tablet, so I had to buy a new tablet as well. Then it turned out that the brush settings I previously used on SAI for shading and lineart didn’t work with the new tablet.

Hence, 2017 was me trying to learn how to use the new equipment combination. I was discouraged and contemplated whether I should ditch drawing altogether. I could not see any progress compared to previous years, only further setbacks.

Welp, hopefully 2018 will be better.

OC-tober #3 Yves

Where do I even start with this handsome fellow. Yves has been there since 2005 (the unnamed original story) and his appearance remained relatively unchanged throughout the years. He was a member of an elementalist species who disguised themselves as humans while their real form was composed of both energy and matter. He was considered one of the strongest by his kin and was admired (and hated) by Ezewiel, a fellow lightning elementalist. Yves’ powers revolved around ice and he was often accompanied on his travels by a shapeshifter named Hau.

In 2012 I named two Varjella characters after Yves and Ezewiel: Yves Kirlain and Ezewiel Jaw’re. Yves Kirlain’s facial tattoos were also taken directly from the original Yves.
