#80SAESTHETIC YOI, COMPLETE WITH ROLLERSKATES (u know they would)
This was waaay too much fun, help how does anyone draw these two without just laying down on the floor and giving up from adorable overload, just this alone destroyed me
BONUS:
Yurio disapproves, he does not understand the appeal of this aesthetic (clearly the 90s are where it’s at), he’s ashamed and you should be ashamed, what the hell are you even wearing, god you’re so old

OTP challenge, number 2: Draw your OTP drawing each other (Shiro’s beautiful handwriting does not apply to his artistic skill)
Let’s not forget to acknowledge Alexandre Dumas this Black History Month
The writer of two of the most well known stories worldwide, The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo was a black man.
That’s excellence.
Let’s not forget that he was played on screen by a white man. And the fact that he was black is barely ever mentioned or the book he wrote inspired by his experiences.
Other things not to forget about Alexandre Dumas:
chose to take on his slave grandmother’s last name, Dumas, like his father did before him.
grew up too poor for formal education, so was largely self-taught, including becoming a prolific reader, multilingual, well-travelled, and a foodie, resulting in his writing both a combination encyclopedia/cookbook (which just— is fucking outrageous to me) AND the adaptation of The Nutcracker on which Tchaikovsky based his ballet
he also wrote a LOOOOT of nonfiction and fiction about history, politics, and revolution, bc he was pro-monarchy, but a radical cuss, and that got him in a lot of hot water at home and abroad.
even beyond that, he generally put up with a lot of racist bullshit in France, so he went and wrote a novel about colonialism and a BLATANTLY self-insert anti-slavery vigilante hero (which he then cribbed from to write the Count of Monte Cristo, the main character of which, Edmond Dantés, Dumas also based on himself).
(…a novel which also features a LOAD of PoC beyond the Count, and at LEAST one queer character, btw, bc EVERY MOVIE ADAPTATION OF ANYTHING BY DUMAS IS A LIE; seriously, at LEAST one of the four Musketeers is Black, y'all.)
famously, when some fuckshit or other wanted to come at Dumas with some anti-Black foolishness, Dumas replied, “My father was a mulatto, my grandfather was a Negro, and my great-grandfather a monkey. You see, Sir, my family starts where yours ends.”
for the bicentennial of his birthday, Pres. Jacques Cirac was like, “…sorry about the hella racism,” and had Dumas’s ashes reinterred at the Panthéon of Paris, bc if you’re gonna keep the corpses of the cream of the crop all together, Dumas’s more widely read and translated than literally everybody else.
and they are still finding stuff old dude wrote, seriously; like discovering “lost” works as recently as 2002, publishing stuff for the first time as recently as 2005.
ALSO IMPORTANT:
SWAG
I am absolutely ashamed to admit I had NO idea Dumas was black.
when this post first went around (a year ago apparently) I was like BUT WHAT ABOUT DADDY DUMAS THOUGH because basically
daddy general dumas was an immense fierce french warrior who was a 6 foot plus, stunningly gorgeous and charismatic Black gentleman
he invaded egypt
the native egyptians said “is this napoleon? this must be napoleon. we for one welcome our majestic new overlord”
then napoleon showed up
napoleon has all the presence of yesterday’s plain Tesco hummus
the native egyptians were like “… no… no, we’ve thought very hard and we’ll have General Dumas actually”
this did not make napoleon happy
in fact it made him jealous
napoleon felt so emasculated that he launched a campaign of revenge against General Dumas, including taking away his pension, that probably inspired a lot of Alexandre’s rather satisfying scenes in which fathers are nobly avenged and the money-grubbing villains are rubbed in the mud
I was never taught that he was Black either. WTF.
General Dumas (aka Thomas Alexandre Davy de La Pailleterie) looked like this…
…and like this…
…while “Napoleon has all the presence of yesterday’s plain Tesco hummus“…
:-D
I suspect Alexandre Dumas would have laughed at that, because besides looking like someone who laughed a lot…
…he was also a foodie.
He was also born in present-day Haiti. Back then, it was the French colony of Saint-Domingue.
The fact that they love to talk about Alexandre Dumas in schools in France but never mention he was black. Why am I learning this here.
If you have never read The Count of Monte Cristo, please please pleaaaase give it a read. It’s extremely good. If you’re not a huge fan of historical novels and haven’t read some, just get the abridged version. It’s a little bit of an easier read for the modern reader.
I love this man so much. He is one of my all time favorite authors. I have read everything of his (in English) that I have been able to find.
“Who knew that you’d be up in here looking like you do You’re making staying over here impossible Baby I must say your aura is incredible If you don’t have to go, don’t”
I entirely blame Lambiel’s performance for introducing me to this beautiful cover of Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music”

PEOPLE
So way back in episode 2 when Yurio shows up he walks in to see Victor skating and has this reaction:
Then says they were from Victor’s short program he was putting together…but now thanks to Episode 10 we know where Victor got those moves from and Yurio damn well knows in this moment too:
Fuck me up!
So I really wanna talk about something that only really just hit me in this episode.
Pretty much all throughout this season, Yuuri has only talked about Victor in a way that suggests he is going to leave.
Not in a single episode,
not in a single moment,
through all his growth, his newfound experience with love and confidence,
did he ever dare to let himself believe that victor could possibly stay.
now can you even imagine how much courage and strength it would take this insecure, self deprecating, anxious boy just to ask victor to stay with him? this glass hearted boy, who is still struggling after years of finding himself unworthy and undeserving of even the smallest things.
this show isn’t the kind to come out right and say things. it doesnt fall into typical romantic tropes of any kind. these two characters continue to show each other their love in their very own, INCREDIBLY personal ways. this was no small request on yuuri’s part. victor was not the only one who declared his love to be everlasting tonight. Yuuri did too, and he did it first. for the very first time, yuri asked. he asked him to stay with him, and made sure he didn’t overstep and ask more than he thought he deserved (thAT BOY)
And Victor answered back. He answered openly, unashamedly, with honesty, with what yuuri never expected. He answered back with what Yuuri needed to hear, as always. He loves him too. He has wanted to stay with Yuuri this whole time.
And that. Is fucking beautiful.
Recommend people I can follow for Yuri on Ice stuffs?
If you're fifteen or older an still sleep with a stuffed animal please reblog this.
Analyzing that scene in YOI Episode 7
Hear me out, guys:
Theory: I don’t think that was their first kiss. It was just their first onscreen kiss.
In the scene where Yuuri was crying, Victor asked him if he should kiss him, quite casually too (props to Victor for ACTUALLY ASKING FOR CONSENT and not just swooping in, you’re cool man).
We’ve seen that technique to stop crying successfully twice in Junjou Romantica, a BL anime, as seen here. Indeed, both those times were the first kisses of the couples in JR, so why would I think this was not Victor and Yuuri’s first kiss?
Because of how Yuuri reacted. He said no, and then:
He’s not even surprised at the fact that Victor just proposed a kiss. There is no disgust in his response; in fact, he goes on to explain why that isn’t a comforting move right now. That could possibly mean that Victor has asked to kiss Yuuri before. (I wonder why…)
Now some of you might say “well, wasn’t Yuuri surprised when Victor kissed him after the performance?” and yes he was. But I think that was because they kissed in front of the whole world, literally. The Grand Prix is probably viewed by millions around the globe. Yuuri, a very private person with some level of anxiety, is not our top choice for someone who indulges in PDA. So no matter what proclamations he makes about Victor, he’s not one to kiss the guy in public. The fact that they did kiss in public was the surprise, in my opinion, because, after the initial shock, Yuuri has a peaceful look, and he doesn’t even question the kiss. He just says:
And returns Victor’s loving, understanding gaze with one of his own.
We have seen Yuuri get flustered at lesser things (such as being asked to be Victor’s lover), If it was their first kiss, he would be more shocked, and for a longer time, than he was. The boy didn’t even blush, goddamnit.
Edit: In case you needed more proof, I just want to add that when Yuuri said “no” when Victor asked if he should kiss him, he didn’t just say no. The Japanese word he used is “chigau” (違う). This isn’t an outright “no” of rejection or anything because the word means “that’s different” or “that’s not right”. That could be interpreted as “this is different right now, and what you’re doing isn’t what I want you to do right now”. Yuuri isn’t surprised or disgusted, and hasn’t refused the kiss itself; rather, he just doesn’t want it at this time. It’s his way of telling Victor that he is missing the point (and then he goes on to explain what the point is, as shown in the screencaps above).
happy birthday makotooo~~ ♪٩(✿´ヮ`✿)۶♪

Time is passing in Yuri on ice
I don’t think people realise how much time has passed in Yuri on ice. Like Yuri loses in December and comes home in march of the following year
Victor arrived in April
in episode 4 Yuri’s phone says May 7
and now as previously stated they’re at the preliminarys which is in september.
So a lot of time is passing between each episode and the creators of the show want us to explicitly know this. That’s important because it means that they’re not making leaps in bounds in a few days. It’s not as if Yuri said no to being Victors boyfriend and then in a day says he loves him but instead this has happened over four- five months the two have become much closer and much more comfortable with each other. This anime is allowing them time to naturally grow close and I think that’s incredibly important because it allows everything to feel more genuine and organic.
