1) Along with being the founder of your dance company, what other hats do you wear in your company?
Choreographer and Artistic Director
2) What/Who inspired you to become a dancer?
My parents would see me dance at any given moment when I was a young girl. Â They knew what I've always known, that I am a dancer and supported me to study and work in the dance field. Their support inspired me to fully engage myself as a dancing artist.
3) If you could collaborate with anyone (living or dead), who would it be?
Fahamu Pecou!
4) Do you dance when no one is watching?
All the time. Nothing wrong with having a dance party by yourself!
5) Guilty pleasure:
Prosecco and chocolate
6) Last song you listened to:
"Water Me" by FKA Twiggs
7) Cold or Hot?
Hot
8) What is something you strive to teach your students when working in your dance company and at Spelman College?
Confidence
9) Favorite Atlanta spot:
My home. Especially my patio.

The accessibility of art to the community.

COREdance is performing this Friday September 26 at 7 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.Â
So we asked Artistic Director, Sue Schroeder a few questions!
1) What is your position at CORE Performance Company?
Artistic Director
2) What first drew you in to the dance world?
Seeing a solo danced by Karen Potter.
3) Someone you want to collaborate with:
Jenny Holzer
4) Favorite place to see dance in Atlanta?
Most any venue that is not a theater, though the Rialto would be my theater of choice.
5) 3 people (living or dead) you'd invite to a dinner party:
Remy Charlip, Joseph Campbell, and Marcela Lobos
6) What is your favorite type of music to dance to?
Most anything from New Orleans
7) Do you have any pre-performance rituals? If so what are they?
If I am performing, I find a place within the performance space to lay on the floor. Â If I am not, I make sure to make contact with each performer before we begin.
8) Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?
Chocolate
9) Best piece of advice  you'd give a dancer before an audition:
Be yourself
10) What inspires you about the houses?
In their current arrangement, the depth of field. Â I am also inspired by the simplicity of each individual structure which has given a sometimes complex sense to the choreography

HMAttic Singer-Songwriter Showcase
As part of Mi Casa, Your Casa, the High Museum of Art is partnering with Eddie’s Attic to present HMAttic: Singer-Songwriter Showcase, an open mic night featuring established and aspiring performing songwriters.
Matt Arnett, Eddie’s Attic Open Mic Night host, will curate a selection of talented musicians for the evening. Each artist will perform original songs in one of the red houses on Sifly Piazza.Â

As we get ready for an amazing installation on September 19 - 25. Â Let's get to know the man behind the art, Kevin Byrd!
1) What is your role with WonderRoot?
WonderRoot has played a critical role in my own artistic development. I was amongst a group of twelve selected for the first Walthall Fellowship, a year-long artist development program.
2) How did you first get involved with creating art?
A passing trip through Marfa, Texas and the work of Donald Judd, John Chamberlain, and Dan Flavin. I speak about this, minimalism, and the journey from design to art: CLICK HERE!
3) Which artists inspire you?

4) Favorite place to see art in Atlanta?
There is so much happening right now around Atlanta. It's everywhere.
5) Do you listen to music while you're working? If so, what do you listen to when creating?
I make seasonal playlists called CHIRP. It's all over the map. Check it out: HERE.
6) What book is currently on your nightstand?
How to Install Nest.
7) Grits or Hashbrowns?
GRITS
8) What advice would you give to a high school senior contemplating art school?
Go to a technology school.
9) Do you work on art every day, regardless of whether or not you've been commissioned, or wait for inspiration to strike?
Making is discovery. Â I make every day.
10) What about the houses inspires you?
My favorite thing is it acts as scaffolding for artistic interventions. It's a framework.
