Family Night
Dick: OK! we have chips, dip, popcorn, candy- everything you could ever want!
Jason: Except freedom
Dick: Shut up, this is my birthday present: 10 family nights!
Duke: I can't believe you didn't give up after Damian tried to strangle Tim during charades last time.
Dick: Well I've learned my lesson. Tim and Damian are no longer allowed to be on the same team.
Steph: Does that mean we get to choose our own teams now?
Dick: No. [cheerily] Ok, tonight is trivia night! We have 4 different knowledge-based games and we'll all be in teams of three, except team C who'll be four because we're uneven. [picks up an old cowl filled with paper slips] I'll start drawing names now.
Dick: first out: Steph, Damian, and- oh, that's Tim I'll just put that back- aha! Jason! So that's team A!
Jason: [flatly] swell.
Dick: Team B! it's... Cass, Me, and Duke!
Dick: Which leaves...
Everyone: [looks around]
Dick: [weakly] ...Bruce, Tim, Babs, and Alfred for team C...
Everyone: ...
---5 hours later ---
Steph: [staring apathetically at the ceiling] I've never felt this outclassed in my entire life.
Duke: how did Alfred know all the lyrics to "fresh prince of bel-air" by heart?
Jason: since when does the Pretender know obscure facts about FASHION?
Damian: Gordon speaks Swahili?
Dick: I can't believe they were so cocky they let Bruce take the Dungeons and Dragons question.
Steph: I can't believe he knew it.
LMAO. Outclassed is right. 🤣
Local Idiot Seduces Every Love Interest And Every Love Rival Before The Protagonist Even Fucking Gets An Opportunity
SPOILER ALERT!!!
(Actually not if you read the Manga)
She seduced the Protagonist too.
Apparently my director went to see a production of West Side Story a few years ago, and the guy playing Chino forgot his gun before coming out for his final scene. Once it got to the big scene where he is supposed to shoot Tony, he screeched “Poison Boots” and kicked the actor playing Tony until he went down. The girl playing Maria then had to jerk the shoe off of Chino’s foot, and had to do the gunshot scene asking “How many kicks Chino? How many kicks, and one kick left for me”.
There should be a blog dedicated to theatrical urban legends. Like that opening weekend of Dracula where Dracula (still hungover) vomited all over the audience during the first stage direction that everyone has a friend of a friend that worked on the show and was there.
or the one where the bridge never came out for Javert’s suicide and so he just pretended to stab himself and then lay there until the lights went out
best story i heard was when a friend of mine saw a show where juliet forgot to bring the dagger out on stage so she just ripped the squib out of her chest and blood squirted everywhere
During a passion play a friend of my brother was supposedly in, one of the roman soldiers who was supposed to stab jesus on the cross and accidentally grabbed the wrong spear- he was supposed to grab one with a fake tip, but instead he grabbed one with an actual metal tip and, well
Jesus screamed “JESUS CHRIST YOU STABBED ME”.
Since that Jesus had to be taken down due to a bad case of stab-itis, the backup Jesus came in, but he weighed significantly less than the original Jesus- which would have been fine, except that at the end the cross was supposed to ascend upwards with Jesus on it, and the weights hadn’t been adjusted.
So Jesus, instead, ROCKETED UP into heaven (or, just, above the stage).
This is wild from start to finish
I was in Peter Pan once and one night at a performance, the adhesive holding our Hook’s mustache on was wearing off. It was near the end with a big fight scene and when he got attacked, he let his mustache fall and went “YOU RIPPED MY MUSTACHE OFF!” in a scandalized tone and it added a new note of hilarity to the whole scene (which was supposed to be funny anyway)
In my seventh grade play, which was a midsummer night’s dream, Thisbe didn’t have a sword so she stabbed herself with a coathanger
My junior year we were doing Romeo and Juliet and after Juliet poisons herself it was supposed to go dark and she’d get off the stage. well the light crew accidentally turned them back on and Juliet who was sitting up slammed back down on the wooden bed with a loud bang. To which my theater teacher says into the com “zombie Juliet” and everyone who heard that had to keep as quiet as possible while our eyes were filling with tears.
i attended my county’s performing arts high school majoring in vocal studies, (mostly geared towards musical theater and opera styles) and once a year we got a field trip to new york (we were in jersey, so it’s not exactly far). we would do one touristy thing, an actor’s workshop with friends of our teachers working in various performing industries in nyc, and then see a show.
my first year doing this, our industry contacts were 1 actor, 1 casting director, and 1 producer to get different aspects of the business, and they all gave us amazing advice and told fantastic stories. the actor in question was Zazu on Broadway’s The Lion King for several years, and told the best story by far.
in The Lion King, there are only two pieces of pre-recorded noise in the whole show. one, when Pumbaa does a MASSIVE fart while fighting the hyenas, and the other being Mufasa saying REMEMBERRRRRR as Simba climbs Pride Rock. the actor told us while struggling not to laugh that, during one night’s performance, someone forgot to flip the tape of these pre-recorded noises.
so, at the end of the show, the great climax where Simba finally accepts his place in the Circle of Life, the heavens parted and-
PFFFFFFFFFRRRRRBTFTBTBFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
everyone froze. and then all ran off stage positively HOWLING with laughter.
the lesson: sometimes there are fuck ups you just can’t recover from.
During a high school production of Beauty and the Beast, where I was assistant costumer and assistant prop master, our director decided that we needed to spice up Gaston’s introduction. You know: in the movie, when Lefou runs in trying to catch the duck/goose that Gaston has just shot out of the sky?
Originally, the actors were going to stroll on stage with our Lefou hauling in the really neat (and real!) taxidermied deer head that we had found in a local thrift store. Now, two days before opening night, our director wants Lefou to run in from off stage and catch a stuffed duck that Gaston has just shot. This, of course, requires two things to work properly as a scene: a gunshot noise, and a stuffed duck.
The gunshot noise, we had covered. Blue-collar, redneck school? Guns a plenty to record. The stuffed duck? Harder than you might have thought to obtain.
Three hunting stores, two taxidermists, and one Pet Supply Store ™, I’d finally found a semi-realistic pheasant squeaky toy. What follows is an account of the ways this dog toy managed to be the nightmare prop of the six show run.
Opening Night: The stagehand, who was supposed to drop the bird from the ceiling catwalk, missed his cue and didn’t drop the it. Lefou’s actor rolls with it and does an excellent job of looking around foolishly before getting cuffed upside the head by Gaston. The stagehand then drops the bird squarely on Gaston’s head. Cue laughter.
Saturday Matinee: Different stagehand throws the bird instead of dropping it and beans Lefou directly in the face with the prop. Lefou falls over. Cue laughter.
Saturday Night: Bird is missing during curtain call. Director hauls the deer head down from it’s place on the tavern wall and tells Gaston and Lefou to revert to the old blocking i.e. no gunshot, no bird, just walk in with trophy. During Gaston and Lefou’s conversation, gun shot sound goes off and a stagehand throws the bird onto the stage…from the wrong side of the stage. Lefou and Gaston stare at it in awkward silence for a solid thirty seconds before Lefou makes off-script, subtle joke about Gaston’s gun going off late instead of early. Cue adults in the audience laughing.
Sunday Matinee: Director begs the stagehands to get the cue right at least once. Gunshot and bird prop go off without a hitch. Lefou accidentally catches the prop when it falls from the catwalk. He’s so startled that he caught it that Gaston runs right in to him. They drop both the gun and the bird props, and grab the wrong prop in their scramble. Gaston spends the rest of the scene gesturing dramatically with a stuffed pheasant, instead of a gun.
Sunday Night: Director is fed up with bird prop, decides that Lefou should just carry bird prop in after gunshot happens off stage. Lefou accidentally squeezes the prop during the intro conversation, startling both actors into silence with the squeaky toy noise - apparently, neither of them realized it was a dog toy.
Monday Elementary School Show: Lefou walks on stage with the bird. Accidentally drops the prop during conversation with Gaston. Gaston doesn’t notice the dropped prop and steps on it. Cue depressingly sad squeaky toy noise. Cue ten years olds laughing.
I was in Twelfth Night during high school and we were lucky enough to have identical twin girls playing Viola and Sebastian. Due to the blocking in the first half of the play, their characters didn’t appear on stage together but rather almost consecutively one after the other for a majority of the first act.
It was awesome because when people saw the play and didn’t know the girls were identical twins, it literally looked like it was one actor doing multiple, uber fast costume changes.
One of our first performances was for our peers and it was a big school so lots of people didn’t know the twins. This - for some reason - was also the performance they chose to record.
Listening to the confusion of the audience during the playback was fantastic and completely topped by the moment Viola walked off stage left just as Sebastian walked on stage right and someone right beside the camera goes “OH WHAT THE FUCK” so loudly it drowned out everything else.
The best thing? That was the copy of the play that was made available for purchase by family and parents. Haha.
Oh my god. I went to one of the Spiderman shows where he flew out above the audience and then got stuck and had to awkwardly hang there for about 10 minutes, but these stories are brilliant.
okay so, my senior year of high school and I’m part of the stage crew for Peter Pan. There’s a scene where Hook and Smee are searching for Peter and the Lost Boys. Now the theater department at my high school isn’t very well funded (in the southern USA, football is king), so the sets we managed to make were pretty kickass for the money we had. We had a structure painted like a big tree stump for the entrance to the Lost Boys’ hideout. You could climb to the top of it, but also go inside it through a trap door that we kept locked up during most of the play.
It’s like our third show and everything has been going surprisingly well. Hook and Smee climb to the top of the “tree trunk”, supposedly looking for Peter and not knowing they’re standing above his hiding spot the whole time.
Turns out someone didn’t close the trapdoor properly, because the second Hook steps on it, he plunges through the thing. He’s able to catch himself, but he’s got his ass and one leg dangling through this hole where it’s like a ten foot drop to the ground. All of us stage crew are literally two feet away from him offstage, just gaping at him because???? Y'all this fall looked BAD. Looked like my dude did the splits in mid air. The whiplash caused his fucking wig to come off. The audience is dead silent, all of us backstage are dead silent, the director is like already looking up how to treat a broken groin.
The kid who was playing Hook was like a fuckin sophomore and he KILLED it. He gave himself a second to catch his breath, never broke character, just looked up at his castmate and growled “Smee, you fool, help me up!”. He ended up playing off the wig thing as an embarrassing comedic bit for Hook, and the play went on. He was completely fine. It was the best thing I’d ever seen.
There was an infamous performance of the opera Don Giovanni where in the last act Giovanni was suppose to be dragged into hell via trapdoor but the overweight actor got stuck, leading someone from the audience to shout: “Hey everyone, Hell’s full!!”
I’m pretty sure I’ve reblogged this before but the Lefou story has me in tears every time.
As someone who did Tech stuff in High school for 4 years, Lefou!
I was a costumer on a stage version of Titanic, and in the scene where the women and children are getting in the lifeboats, one of the men (who was supposed to be saying goodbye to his wife he knows he will never see again because his is about to die), realized his fake mustache was falling off and instead of playing it cool… he rips it off his face, and hands it to his wife with the line “Something to remember me by”…it was the funniest thing that I have ever seen in my 8 years in theatre, the entire cast lost their shit laughing at the most dramatic moment possible
I am laughing so hard I’ve been crying for ten minutes. Thank you
AU where Damian unknowingly has magical abilities passed onto him genetically and the abilities get stronger overtime to a universal scale. He ends up knowing his powers after realizing he accidentally put everyone in a time loop because he subconsciously did not like the idea of Bruce or Dick aging and ultimately leaving him.
Oh... oh this shit is sad...
Now, I know ageing and death is something a lot of people in fandom (and in rl) don’t really like to talk about. But, for me, it’s sort of beautiful part of life. We grow up, grow old, and life goes on. Nothing is eternal. Everything, and everyone, will end. And I really like that. It’s got this almost poetic rhythm to it and makes coping with loss easier for me, personally.
I think it would be a bitter sweet story if Damian learnt he’d timelooped his family... and at first thinks that’s a good thing because they won’t die... but eventually realises it means they won’t really live either. They’re not going to change, and grow, and be who they could be. So, he lets them keep on living... and it’s hard, but he does it, because he loves them.
And, of course, he eventually becomes arch wizard of awesome at the institute of magic peeps but that’s another whole story.
This is such a beautiful thing that I need to reblog it for everyone to see.
how does being punched in the face feel like
literally i just wanna know
It depends on where you get hit
Cheek: a round dull pain that clocks your entire head in a different direction. It’s painful and throbs but the main effect of a punch to the cheek is how jarring it is. You feel it in your mouth, your teeth. And no matter how you position that punch the knuckles will always hit the jaw and cheek bones adding a frame of sharp pain in which the redness will be painted.
Temple: getting hit on the temple pushes your head to the side rather than turning it. It’s disorienting because it leaves you very off balance. It essentially feels like a bad pressure headache, like when you have a sinus infection on a plane, but in one spot and on the outside. It’s sharp in the middle and radiates outward and even after the initial impact it pulses like an earthquake epicenter. It easily causes long lasting headaches and is the most likely of these examples to cause a concussion.
Eye: this is a weird one. The fist doesn’t fit within the eye socket so either the knuckles on the brow and cheeks bones protect the actual eye or they don’t. The former option gives a full spreading pain below the eye which results in the classic black eye look and a sharp pain on your brow similar to hitting your shin on the couch. The latter option, well bad things can happen when a hard fast object makes direct contact with your eye but for the sake of this it feels like a vacuum bc the concave shape is being covered and pressurized. The eye feels pushed back and pulled forward all at once. It doesn’t necessarily hurt that bad for that long unless the punch was meant to do damage. I’m fortunate to say I don’t know what it would feel like then.
Nose: remember that prank kids used to pull where they’d line up their hands with their nose, push them in one direction and crack a knuckle at the same time to pretend to break their nose? Yeah that’s what it looks like when someone punches you from the side in the nose, except it’s someone else’s hand and your nose makes the sound instead of their knuckle. It’s just like breaking any bone where you hear it and feel the action if it being done but that moment of shock blankets you for a split second until all the pain comes rushing back. It’s sharp and needlelike and can give you black eyes just to add insult to injury. If you get hit in the nose from the front it’s like the uncomfortableness of when you have to sneeze but can’t. Except that feeling took all the steroids and is now using your face as a punching bag to express its roid rage. It crackles outward like static electricity under your skin, your eyesight gets fuzzy and you can’t tell if it’s because you’re tearing up, it’s hard to open your eyes, or you’re momentarily stunned and blinded. Just know it’s all three. I find that this one knocks the wind out of you the most. Gotta remind yourself to breathe just don’t try to do it through your nose.
If you really want to know what this feels like I’d suggest joining a mixed martial arts because they’ll teach you correct form and power distribution and you can spar with pads and actually hit each other.
I’d also recommend learning what it feels like to punch someone in the face. It’s much more fun and pretty damn cathartic when they deserve it.
Comfort
Look, I love feral Bruce hours just like anybody else but what about his boyfriend? have you any thoughts on the alien cowboy? I'm a Clark Kent's Rights Activist.
You have no idea how delighted I was at this ask! I, too, am a CKRA! The fact that he hasn’t gotten his own posts yet..for shame!!!😔
Thank you so much for your patience, but I finally present you
Sunshine Clark Fun Facts
“Clark Kent, Reporter” has a Metropolis accent that hints at his Smallville past to fit into his cover of being a sweet, self-conscious Ex-Farmboy. Meanwhile Kal/Superman/Clark has a full on Kansas accent. Nothing Ex about that, very self-confident. WILL use farm metaphors during League meetings.
when the people he rescues comment on it, he says it’s a Kryptonian accent => which is true, since he’s a Kryptonian, and it’s his accent
Since he himself can’t get sick, Clark is very suspicious when it comes to illnesses etc, but he’s not the panicky type, he’s too action-oriented for that. He simply forces a bunch of home remedies on his victim (mostly Bruce, who dutifully sips his hot carrot juice with cinnamon to fight off his evil common cold)
On the weekends, when he’s not at the farm to help with something, he’s in the kitchen (at the farm or at home), dusted in flour, baking or cooking. His homemade pasta is extremely good and he has a passion for pie.
He doesn’t like the concept of Horror Films where the evil forces are monsters, animals or (surprise!) Aliens, since it’s a sign of a closed-minded society to reject creatures they don’t understand. However, he does like monsters and he watches a fair share of horror films where they’re treated with respect. (Mostly ones for children, but his current favourite is probably the Shape of Water, tbh)
When he got to know Bruce better, he made sure that bats would nest in the barn with the end goal of inviting Batman over to show him, or just to have something to talk about with him (also at that point it wasn’t yet clear whether Bruce was part bat after all, so that would’ve been a good way of studying his likes and dislikes). However, he ended up forgetting about that plan and instead fell in love with these fuzzy little fluffballs, so now he just has a barn filled with a colony of bats all called Bruce.
(Yes, he can tell them apart)
Re: Monsters, Bruce being half-bat: He’s had his fair share of dreams where Bruce was a vampire. (You know which kind of dreams.)
He’s very chivalrous.
He’s very ambitious.
Re 9&10: He’s very playful in bed, but he won’t let his partners leave until they’re boneless and incoherent with pleasure. It’s a matter of honour, really. And of course he’s very sweet about it, but he’s also very thick-headed. You never had multiple orgasms? Well, Darling, that just won’t do. Lie back down, please.
despite being called “Sunshine Clark”, due to his friendly nature, his bright smile, his body temperature, his self-confidence and his sun-worship, Clark also very much enjoys the dark silence of the universe. It’s his greatest regret that he can’t take Bruce to a trip among the stars with him, since he would love to share that eternal, ethereal peace of the glittering-silent void. He’s a warm, open person, but he’s also very introspective. After all, he grew up knowing that he was vastly different from his loved ones, and that while he considers the Earth his home, he also knows very well that it’s not. That cool-melancholic, thoughtful side of him is not something he shares with a lot of people, but it’s another reason he connects so deeply with Bruce.
I love this man…so much…❤️💙
"You didn't call."
"You didn't ask me to," Bruce said mildly, still looking down at his phone.
"I have to ask you to call?" Clark couldn't help the way his voice rose in frustration. "Jesus, Bruce, do you make a habit of sleeping with other superheroes that you work with?"
Bruce looks up at him then, the line of his mouth flat, unimpressed. "No."
"Then what the hell? I would've expected this bullshit a half year ago, maybe, but not now. In case you forgot, Bruce, we're friends."
Bruce's mouth flattens even more, a thin empty expression on his face. "I'm aware."
Clark feels anger bubbling up in his chest, a hot burning warmth, as he flicks through his memories of last night. Bruce's hands on his jaw, his mouth against Clark's own, his voice, hoarse and rough, mumbling Clark's name.
Bruce, already gone when Clark woke up, Bruce, sitting in front of him now, with an expression so blank he might as well be a statue.
Bruce, who isn't used to someone still wanting him in the morning.
"Bruce," Clark says slowly, "I'm going to kiss you now." And with that, he leans over, and gently, with no deeper intention, kisses Bruce.
Bruce doesn't react for a few, painful seconds, and then he's leaning forward, one hand coming up to grab the back of Clark's neck, pulling him down.
When Clark pulls away, he rests his forehead against Bruce's and fights the urge to laugh. "Tomorrow," he says softly, "You're going to call."
Bruce smiles then, a small thing that Clark can feel. "It would be rude not to," he agrees, and Clark laughs and laughs, joy rushing through his body like sunlight.
Imagine being Superman/Clark Kent and interacting with Bruce Wayne when you know he’s The Batman. One moment he’s making heart eyes at you when you’re in Superman mode trying to save his life all the while listening to how if you’d go out on just One Date with him Superman, baby he’ll show you the time of your life.
Then, you’re in Clark Kent Journalist Mode interviewing billionaire playboy philanthropist Mr. Wayne and he tells you to call him Brucie, please and proceeds to flirt with you throughout the interview but instead of being able to just brush him off like you normally would when you’re Superman you have to act all flustered and shy which isn’t much of an act if you’re being really honest with yourself.
And then the real kicker is when Bruce Wayne is in The Batman mode and he’s all cold and gruff. He won’t even say hi to you in whatever form. He doesn’t talk about anything besides business and you’re slowly losing your hold on sanity. Like he’s so fucking professional you want to tear your hair out because literally a couple of hours ago he was romancing you into quick romantic sex-filled getaway to Paris. Imagine the fucking whiplash.
