A few weeks back I had the chance to photograph another kids birthday party for my friend Janeās daughter Casey, who is such a cutey pie. One thing I have learned from doing two kids birthday parties now is that they move fast, the lighting is often terrible in the spaces they are in (yellow much!) and it is really hard to get shots where the parentās crotches are not in the background. Parents love to hover, I think they call it āhelicopter parentingā these days, and as an expecting mom I am sure I will end up doing this soon unintentionally; if I see a photographer I will make sure to keep to the sidelines though ; )
This party was super cute to photograph as the theme of the party was a ātea partyā and it came fully equipped with porcelain tea cups! Seems crazy to have 3 year olds with porcelain tea cups and saucers, but hey nothing broke so maybe it goes to show adults need more faith in little people. There were adorable cupcakes, home made fascinators and bowties,Ā flower cut PB nā J sammies and kettles with tea for the parents. I found it really cute how serious the little ones looked when focusing on the crafts they were doing, and when they were drinking their āteaā (orange or apple juice). They held the cups so tightly as not to drop them, and brought them so close to their face much like you would do as part of a Japanese tea ceremony.
As I mentioned the lighting in the room was very yellow, so I had to try and fix that which was fun as I just bought Lightroom! I also had a bit of extra fun with the editing trying to make some of the pictures look antique as it seemed to fit the feeling of the pictures. I am not a huge post processing person, but it was fun to do with this pictures.
I think Jane did a superb job on this one, and I had alot of fun photographing the event, so thanks to Jane and family for having me and allowing me to post some of the pictures from Caseyās special day!
