Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:

1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!

2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.

3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)

Sometimes I feel like marriage is a death I'm not allowed to mourn.

I'm closing the timeline where I'm completely free. No compromises, no burdens, no children to raise, no men to raise, no unjust domestic labour. Just me, being enough. I dream about her sometimes, and she looks so happy. Traveling the world, learning everything, helping people, nurturing to her full capacity.

I'm not knocking marriage, really. If I got married, I know I'd be stepping into a life of joy and abundance because I have high standards and deep love. I'd be happy and loved. I don't see marriage as a prison.

But if I get married, I'll never know if I could do it. Can I live that dream? Can I do it all?

I miss her.

arabic poetry is so well penned down yet so heart-wrenching. I mean “I felt like kissing the swords because their glimmer reminded me of your smile” and “and if the devil was to ever see you, he’d kiss your eyes and repent” made me forget how to breathe.

So the first one is a stanza from a poem by Antarah ibn Shaddad, whose verses are famous for combining the brutality of battle with passionate love.

The original text in Arabic is:

وَلَقَد ذَكَرتُكِ والرِّماحُ نَواهِلٌ - مِنّي وبِيضُ الهِندِ تَقطُرُ مِن دَمي

فَوَدَدتُ تَقبيلَ السُيوفِ لأَنَّها - لَمَعَت كَبارِقِ ثَغرِكِ المُتَبَسِّمِ

Which translates to:

“I recalled you, as bright swords tore through me

And spears, of my blood, took thirsty sips

And I felt like kissing the swords because their glimmer reminded me of your smile”
