half human half vampire mika (inspired by dante) who hunts rogue vampires and vampire hunter yuu (inspired by lady)
i just rewatched the 2007 devil may cry anime and dante and lady remind me so much of mika and yuu.
mika, like dante, is cold and holds an extremely indifferent view towards life. he has no family, and has a tendency to be almost violent with any and everything around him. mika cant hold connections to people. his voice is deceivingly flat, soft syllables, and his words blend together. he keeps his gaze pointed towards the ground, sharp cerulean eyes and slitted pupils like those of a vampire—he’s not though. refuses to even think of it.
but there are similarities, whether he wants to acknowledge them or not: the sun burns his pale skin, makes him feel like there’s embers of flesh and skin flaking off when he’s been in its direct rays for too long. he’s far more powerful at the peak hours of night, when the moon hangs up in the sky like a decoration.
and it’s certainly just coincidence when blood splatters across brick walls and he feels a tug in his stomach to drink it. mika lies to himself everytime that it’s just morbid curiosity as he sweeps through the plaque-ridden city of sanguinem.
mika is devastatingly strong. he can hear heartbeats a mile away, and can crush steel with his bare hands. he can jump dozens of feet in the air and throw grown men over his shoulder like they’re nothing but a tennis ball. his mother was krul tepes and from her status, was considered an extremely important and powerful noble. his father on the other hand mysteriously died when he was no more than 8 years old—he doesnt remember much of him besides his pale blonde hair stained with blood. mika blames himself for everything, uses it as fuel to never let any of the bloodsuckers see another day so long as he catches them in his sight. he does odd jobs here and there, patrols the city, and eats at a quiet restaurant who knows his distinct taste for just barely cooked meat. it holds the facade of a well cooked steak, but inside it’s sopping with the remnants of blood, fresh from the butchers.
vampire hunter mika keeps to himself, that’s fact—save for one specific individual who thinks the cold shoulder is just a suggestion.
neet the orphan child yuu who thinks he and mika are brothers from another mother. he basks in mika’s silence, fills it with his continuous chatter, and never lets him out of his sight when they patrol together at night. yuu is powerful for a human. he has quick reflexes and can almost beat mika in an arm wrestling match if mika is half asleep.
they met one day on an escort mission. the two best hunters assigned up north to take care of a very wealthy daughter who was passing through their beautiful city. it was just coincidence that yuu decided to stick around sanguinem; said there was something ‘unique’ about mika and he wanted to learn more about him. since that day he’s been stuck lurking around ‘sanguinem’s penchant’ the quiet hole people knew from word of mouth alone. it was the shop that appeared when you were ready to take desperate measures.
mika wouldnt say he minds yuu’s company, certainly fills the long pauses of silence where he doesnt speak for days on end. however mika would be lying if he said he wasnt apprehensive towards yuu’s watchful gaze and just how much he lingers behind him as mika deals the final blow. there’s no doubt mika is a skilled swordsman. he moves like the blade of his sword is just an extra attachment.
yuu lost his parents to vampires when he was 12, since then he’s made it his personal mission to seek vengeance. beneath his goofy exterior is cold hard logic of kill or be killed.
and thats why he ‘killed’ mika when he found out he was half vampire.
