Another great exhibit at The New York Historical Society-- Original paintings from illustrators -- World War II. These were used for magazine covers, war bond sales, general morale-building. Including quite a few by Norman Rockwell, including the originals for The Four Freedoms illustrations and posters, Rosie the Riveter, etc. Wonderful paintings. This one is a close-up of a painting by Tom Lea--of a Marine after a battle in the Pacific-- Called, "The Two Thousand Yard Stare".
