juldgeum and lily bell scenes
in canon, there's a lot of focus put on the lily bell, specifically how it represents not only flower hill but the friendship between geumsaegi and juldarami. in canon, it was given as a gift from geumsaegi to juldarami because it was his favorite flower.
why it's his favorite flower? never directly mentioned but i think it's implied of how it relates to flower hill's strength and him wanting to protect his friends and loved ones. it's very...cute, idk. also a symbol of May Day for similar reasons relating to communism.
the lily bell has a lot of meanings in different cultures, there's even some tragic folk tale about it in og korea that i want to read but one common in other cultures is that of love and friendship-the lily bell canonically represents the latter, but what about, headcanon time, the former?
lily bells are often given to loved ones during may day and also to loved ones in general in some other cultures, there's a popular soviet folk song called landyshi that is about someone giving a lily bell to the subject the singer is playing in the song, mentioning may in it ...um, juldarami and geumsaegi come off as very romantic in general when the lily bell stuff comes up. in the same ep juld had the flashback to geum giving him it he has this fantasy about geum which also shows the lily bell in said fantasy as something "uniting" the two, as in, juldarami throws a paper boomerang with a lily bell tied to it that comes back with him catching it, which causes tree flower blossoms to fall on both of them. it's a very cute and sweet scene... literally framed like this.
falling flower petals themselves also have quite a bit of symbolism in themselves with how they're often used to represent the fleeting beauty of life.
then, we have the scene from ep 24 where geum comes back to see a hurt juldarami and they embrace and talk about how they're going to get through things together. in this scene, it emphasizes the lily bell unionizing them like this.. framing it to show their deep connection.
...there's the lily bell scene from episode 22. i usually am not the type to say "okay that's gay" to something in a genuine like Definitive sense but this scene is so..on another level. interesting how they had them seemingly give eachother a pecking kiss on the lips (what else could that be??) the way it frames them together IN a lily bell silhouette, the way they're holding hands and facing eachother...geumsaegi saying "juldarami, let's return to flower hill after we complete our task", both of them together. THE KISS THEY DO. idk this scene always came off as very "after we're done let's settle down together as lovers" and the fact they frame it with the lily bell that canonically represents their intimate bond is so.
other than this, of course, the lily bell is used in many other parts of the show. the first one that usually comes to my mind is..well..."pangulggot" but also the episode pangulggot reports, with the lily bell symbolism correlating well with juldarami's strength and devotion to protect flower hill despite the struggles he faces.
There’s also a lot to say about how in the song there is a Lily bell growing in a thorn thicket. So the squirrels are going through some hardships and having to stay away from their homeland while working as scouts, aka in the thorn thicket. But they still remember each other and their homelands, as well as the promises they made, and they still bloom despite everything.
Definitely yea. I think the Lily bell itself represents flower hill+the strength of it+the strength of bonds between people, sort of a collectivist mentality kind of thing??maybe?? idk it's very cute,... They think of eachother and preservere theough hardships and remember loved ones,...
So for the past few weeks or so off and on I've been resyncing all the fan subtitles to the DVD footage of SaH. I did this bc I wanted screencaps without the watermark in the corner and I felt like the footage from the DVD was better in other ways. before I get into this. I DID NOT MAKE THE SQUIRREL AND HEDGEHOG SUBS!!! OF COURSE I DIDN'T!!! I JUST RETIMED THEM TO THE DVD FOOTAGE AND CHANGED A VERY MINIMAL AMOUNT OF LIKE GRAMMATICAL MISTAKES AND PHRASING, PLEASE INSTEAD CREDIT THE MANY PEOPLE I FOUND WHO HAVE WORKED ON THE OG SUB HERE!!! IF ANY OF THEM WANT ME TO TAKE THIS DOWN, I WILL, NO QUESTION.
