In the War of 1812, the British ship HMS Boxer battled the United States’ USS Enterprise in the Gulf of Maine. The Enterprise eventually won, but the commanders of both ships died during the battle. Both captains were only in their twenties. William Burrows and Samuel Blyth are buried next to each other in Portland’s Eastern cemetery.
