Is Modern Marketing on its way to become obsolete?

For the last few years, there is a growing trend defined under Modern Marketing encompassing different techniques like Inbound Marketing, Social Marketing, sCRM, Top Of FUnnel (TOFu / MOFu / BOFu), Customer Centric, Storytelling, ... Every other day, there seems to be a new different type of marketing technique popping up, and if you listen to some of the gurus like Gary Vaynerchuk, they will tell you that whatever you are doing in terms of marketing today, it will likely be obsolete in 2 years time.

So let’s define Current Marketing: the set of marketing techniques that you are using today. Today Current Marketing may combine Inbound with Outbound, concentrating on TOFu. Tomorrow's Current Marketing might no longer involve any of the techniques used today. 

The word “Modern” in Modern Marketing is losing its value with time, and time is accelerating at a faster pace than people actually have the time to assimilate the new marketing techniques.

Working Current Marketing will allow you to include new techniques as they become pertinent to you.

Dutch bicycle company packages televisions

Good e-commerce strategy: couriers are nicer to tellies than pushies

VanMoof, a Dutch bicycle company, found that disguising its products as televisions led to less damage in transit.

Bex Rad , the company's creative director took shared the company's story, recounting that the company “struggled to find shipping partners that give our bikes the same obsessive love and care that we do.”

Rad said the company tried lots of couriers. “The big ones, the niche ones, the expensive ones, ... the start-up ones.”

“But no matter who was doing the shipping, too many of our bikes arrived looking like they’d been through a metal-munching combine harvester. It was getting expensive for us, and bloody annoying for our customers.”

Then, “earlier this year our co-founder had a flash of genius,” he continued. “Our boxes are about the same size as a (large) flat-screen television. Flat-screen televisions always arrive in perfect condition. What if we just printed a flat-screen TV on the side of our boxes?”

“And just like that, shipping damage to our bikes dropped by 70–80%.”

Checking into "Salon Solutions" in Paris.

Passer une journée entière sur un salon informatique de nos jours, relève d'un zèle extrême. Entre Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, Spigraph, des petites solutions de GED, d'ERP, de CRM, d'EDI, et quelques intégrateurs, le salon n'est pas plus folichon que le dernier salon où on faisait le tour en moins de 2 heures. Quelqu'un de moyennement préparé, peut en une demi journée, faire ce qu'il a à faire, se faire une expo et déjeuner avec un/une pote.
