Mikhail had about an hour left until closing time at the coffee shop he worked. His co-worker Darlene mentioned seeing a strange (possibly homeless) person by the dumpster near the alleyway, and he sighed in annoyance. He abandoned the half-finished cream latte art of a kittenâs face, hastily pulling off his apron. Like Hell was he about to let someone rummage through the trashâ itâd probably cost him his job! Scowling, Mikhail made a beeline for the stranger with every intention of scaring them away. When he approached the woman, however, he instantly sensed something in her. Power just waiting to be used. That, and the fact she looked injured made it impossible for him to turn her away as heâd originally planned.
âWhat are you doing here? Itâs dangerous to be out alone.â He motioned to the coffee shop, âCome inside, itâs awfully cold...â Mikhail swallowed hard, and couldnât shake a dreadful feeling that the woman was in danger. He resumed working, but found himself unable to create anymore latte art.
Once his shift ended and customers and co-workers made themselves scarce, he was surprised to see the stranger sitting at a table. The Mutant hurriedly locked the front door, flipping the sign on it to indicate the shop was closed.
Now time to get some answers. He thought, preparing a mocha latte for the blonde. âHere, drink this. Itâll warm you up.â Mikhail said kindly, handing the beverage to the woman.
