It has been 10 months since I was face-to-face with my husband. 286 days. And tomorrow, I will pick him up from the airport. We will pick up where we left off. I hope. With all the excitement that comes with getting your military spouse back, there comes major anxiety. After all the time, will we still have that spark? Will his hand still feel the same when it is holding mine? Will he be attracted to me? Did he change? Praying that the distance didn't change the man I love.

Clarity
It's so easy to be frustrated and overwhelmed by the distance. More often than I'd like, I lose focus on what a good thing that we have going. But then I have these moments of complete clarity that remind me why we do this. I just want to stay in these moments where I'm so in love with you it doesn't even matter where in this world you are. In these moments thinking about you, about us, gives me an overwhelming sense of calmness that I can't even describe as anything else but pure love. I want to live in these moments of clarity, see past the confusion of distance and life and technicalities... And just love.

A quiet strength
There is a resilience that comes with being a military spouse. A quiet strength made by too many lonely nights and dinners for one. But it makes you tough. Teaches you self-reliance. You hold your head higher when you learn what you are capable of. You become a little more fearless each day. You hear, āI donāt know how she does it.ā And that makes you proud. Keep being strong. Some days are just. so. hard. Nothing makes it feel better, not even him. The distance weighs on you. You canāt see an end anywhere in sight. The temptation to throw your hands up and yell to the universe, āYou win! I quit!ā
You can choose to be strong and keep this love youāve been fighting for. Or you can walk away. But the days are going to pass either way.
Two things are true: The days are still going to pass. You will still love that man.
Spend your days loving him not wallowing about the distance.

I had a friend say to me yesterday, "you miss him every day, don't you? Like, the distance never gets easier, huh?" Like, no. It doesn't. Sometimes it takes longer for outsiders to understand what we go through in a long distance relationship. Be patient. Be kind. Remember your strength. Pray.

First fight with my husband since he left. Little fight, yes. But this is exactly what I mean by men showing love differently. He had a hard time putting an apology into words, so he sent me a link to this song. Couldnāt help but smile. Heās lucky Iām a sucker for him.
