tutorial
For anon about how I make my edits & how I get the vibrant colors.
For starters, I use FireAlpaca to make my edits.
My bottom layer is the page/panel itself which I generally edit out the background or text of. (I just go over it with white.)
I do my coloring on multiply layers. The screen layers are coloring the actual linework.
A lot of it is about getting a feel for what color combinations you can do with screen + multiply layers. I put some examples of what I do below to get bright colors.
Screen + multiply layer combos kind of follow similar rules to playing with hue while shading. You can use a more saturated or darker version of the color you used on the multiply layer for your screen layer or you can play with hue. You can shade purple with blue, shade red with purple, and you can just play with unexpected combos.
How I color clothes and stands is not that different from how I color skin. I just use different colors.
The only real difference here is that I’m not using as highly saturated colors as I do with everything else. I use reds and browns because they’re natural, but you can experiment here. I’ve used purple and blue to line skin before when I’m just messing around.
This is just a full thing to make sure I’ve covered all my bases. This shows how screen layers go UNDER the multiply layer. You can stack as many multiply layers as you want if you like to color stuff separately, it doesn’t matter as long as it’s over the screen layer.
Some misc stuff I would say is that sometimes things do look better when you don’t use a screen layer. I’d say this is true for trying to blend Jotaro’s hat with his hair and sometimes just hair in general if it’s dark.
When I use screen on stands, you’ll notice there’s no black outline. This is actually me just being very, very tedious by changing the layer opacity and making sure my screen layer matches up the outline as good as possible.
I hope this covers any questions anyone has, but if you have one you can reply to this post or put it in my inbox and I’ll make another post explaining it.
